Hi all. I'm new to this AR lark, and just in case it makes a difference, I'm in the uk, so mine has no gas block etc and is single shot (yeah, I know, stupid laws)

Rifle, NEA15 14.5" 1-7"twist.

The problem I have, is, unless I load really hot, I'm not getting anything close to decent groupings.

The only load that has been any good is a very hot 77gr smk load, using 24.5gr of imr 4895, CCI 440's in ppu brass,

I've tried lots of other combos, and nothing else is any cop.

Can anybody suggest any 'go to' loads using what I have available, so I can get a ballpark figure on where to work around please...

Bullets.

90 smk

77 Berger otm Tac

77 smk

60 vmax

55 vmax

50 vmax

Powders

IMR 4198

IMR 4895

CFE 223

H335

VV N140

VV N135

I don't have, nor can get varget, been the same for two years now, none in the country at all. Nor can we get 'wolf' primers.

Max OAL is limited to 'pmags' and I know I'll have to single load the 90's.

I've done the usual checks of crown, headspace etc

Regards

Pete

That a single shot, 14.5" barreled, AR? What are you doing with it? Just curious.
24.5 gr of IMR4895 is 1.5 over max. And the max of 23 is a compressed load. You work up to that or just pick it?

The load was thrown on a (unknown at the time)broken chargemaster. I know it's over max. And certainly didn't use after pulling one down and weighing on a new scale.
I'm using it mainly for a truck gun, driving around the farm spotlighting foxes, even with the moderator fitted, it's short enough to be able to swap windows to shoot out of.

I have since found the problem, my (new) dies were sizing the brass far too much, and pushing the shoulders back far too far, now I've sussed that out, and had them swapped over by the shop, used some properly sized brass, 24gr of n140 under a 77 smk, and all is good. :)
