i built a 6.5wsm off a savage police action 300wm i used the same bolt and changed only the barrel. using 264 winmag loading data i figured i would try a few shots. the first load was h414 54 gr.the chorny wont work in this temp but anyways first shot stuck in the chamber. the ejector ripped off a corner of the brass while being pulled out leaving the case in. with a brass rod i removed the case. "ok" i figured that was hot so dopped down 6 grains 48 grain this time. the exact process happen once more and now im left shaking my head as too whats going wrong. 48 gr is 7 more grains then i shot out of my 260 so don't figure its still high pressure. the first primer had the firing pin dimple push out almost flush and the second had a slight ring around. rough chamber? lets hear what you have to say

I shoot a .264WM. What is your bullet weight? That weight of powder does not seem high, but it depends on bullet weight.

Do you know what the neck diameter ID is in your chamber? Your gunsmith should know. How does that compare to your loaded round neck OD? What is the neck OD of your two fired cases (before sizing)? Have you checked case length to the chamber size? Again gunsmith should know what case length is OK.

What bullet are you shooting???

First thoughts are the powder might be a little fast... I used US 869 in my 6.5X300 Win Mag.. Reloaders nest and ammoguide both have loads using slower powders than H414..

Again this is just my 2 cents and probably worth both pennies..

Confirm the bore diameter.

confirm the bullet diamter

Confirm the powder used - Try H4831SC or H1000 or Re25 or Retumbo might be better options.

Confirm the chamber has clearance for the case neck

Have your smith look at it.

Unless there is something mechanically goofy, I would switch powders to something new and fresh. I have no idea what your powder useage is like but ball powders can get switched and there is no way to tell them apart. Also, as they age, they can get way faster then orig made.

The powder levels you are suggesting are dangerously low for such a large case. Sort out the mechanics and if this is good, use new/different powder.

Not a good idea. The bullet diameter is different. Always match bore diameter, case capacity, and bullet weight."

You cannot use load data for another caliber (bore size). The amount of powder you used would be suitable for a 85-100 grain in a .264WM, but behind a 140 grain it is way too fast and too much. Not a suitable powder. The bore size is important because the larger the bore the more area the same pressure has to push against. So the larger the bore while the bullet weight stays the same the easier the bullet is to push. So you can get away with a faster powder in a larger bore.

If you want to shoot a 140 grain, you need about 56 min to 60 max grains of H4831. As always you start with the lower and work your way up -- especially on a wildcat.

Best advice I can give is find data for a 6.5X300WSM.. it is a rather common wildcat these days.. Info isn't too hard to find..

Your chamber (6.5-300WSM) is known as the 'Lepoard', my first wildcat was the 6.5-270WSM which is known as the 'Rock'. I chose this becuase I did not want to deal with turning overly thick necks, so..

(1) Have you checked the diameter of your loaded round at the neck to ensure your neck thickness is not the problem? Generally you should notice some issues when you chamber, it should be hard to push the bolt closed

(2) Have you checked the length of the cartridge to ensure your necks are not getting into the throat?

(3) I agree that checking the bore and chamber reamer diagram will also be important

I ran your load thru quickload, your 54gn of H414 with a 140gn SMK should generate 3000 fps with a pressure of 58,000 and a casefill of 80%. So, this may not be an efficient load but should not really be a problem, I got better results with H1000 in my rifle. Unless there is a problem with your powder I would look at the bore, chamber and your brass for case neck length and thickness.
