I am looking to acquire some reloading equipment and have come across a Herters loading press I believe is from the 60's. It looks like a heavy duty press compared to some of the others I have looked at. It comes with .243 and .270 dies, 400+ pieces of polished re-sized .243 brass, a half a dozen reloading books all for $175. Doesn't seem like a bad deal but I can't seem to find much info reagarding the press. Can anyone provide more info??

Big heavy C press, Takes proprietary shell holders, if you plan on loading a large assortment of calibers then hunt for shell holders first before buying as the are scarce.

Other than that they are a decent press.

Good old fashioned design and you could probably run it with a 100 ton hydraulic ram and not have to worry about breakage.

As mentioned the shell holders are the issue. If you know a machinist it is very simple to rig up an adapter to take the modern universal shell holders. If I saw one cheap I would grab it for sure.

It is a good solid old press but in truth $175.00 is more than I would offer especially if the reloading books are more than a few years old. I would offer the person 100 bucks for the package and maybe go as high as 120 depending on the condition of the dies.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm thinking about purchasing a kit from Lee or RCBS for around the same money. All the books are old and the dies have been well used.

So you will need RCBS shell holders #3 and #43 as well as the dies and press. Additionally you will want good scale as well as a case trimmer of some sort in addition to some reloading manuals.

You may want to place a "Want to buy Add" in the EE here as I am sure you will be able to buy some used equipment and save a few dollars over new prices.
