My wife and daughter bought me a swede Mauser sporter in 6.5x55 for fathers day and it has what appears to be an older nikko stirling gold badge scope in 4-12x40 with a compensating turret on top.

Does anyone have any info on these, possibly what weight of bullets the turrets were calibrated for. The glass seems like decent clear Japanese glass from the 60's-70's but I'm not sure if it is just a junk scope or not.

Thanks in advance

like anything of that vintage, 30 cal likely 150 gr bullets. it is a guesstimate type scope nothing precision that is for sure. take it out and shoot it see where it lies and go from there. Bonus is you got a gun for fathers day and a scope to boot. Enjoy

I don't think those scopes are that old? I remember them showing up in the stores back in the late 1980's, and lasted until about the mid 1990's. I believe they were sold to retailers through Bell Hardware. I bought a couple of them in 4x, and they are excellent scopes. Very nice fit and finish, clear glass, and a very nice duplex cross hairs. They were about a mid to low-mid price range scope, but I think that was a good deal back then, because they could have sold for more money.

Thanks for the info, it looked like some older jap glass that I've had but who knows, I'm looking forward to getting some cartridges loaded and see what the glass and gun can do
