Caspian Arms sells 1911 slides and receivers separately for you to build your own custom gun.

Has anyone ever imported either for their own custom build?

I realize I could do a custom build with a norc, but can't bring myself to actually go that route.

buy a Nork and play with it all way around...will be a lot of fun believe me !
here is my Nork Comm with ss Fusion mods/controls
and with the frame hard chromed by Rodger K.

I had a lot of fun and learned a lot from my Norinco project! Consider my Norc 1911 Sport model, with arma-coated frame + slide, Flat MSH + magwell, and G10 golfball grips:

hey milofficer, great looking norc. I am wondering where you had the work done? What gunsmith? Thanks in advance

Nice job on your 'project' guns fellas!

On the "Caspian" question..... I have this "custom" on a Caspian frame that was done up by someone else. I scored it because he was trading up into a double stack STI for competition.....

Caspian Frame w checkered trigger guard
Kimber double diamond hardwood grips, stainless hex grip screws
Colt Series 80 Gold Cup Nat'l Match Slide
National Match Bull Barrel
Match Trigger
Tungsten Guide Rod with Reverse Plug
Chip McCormick hammer/sear
Fitted, high rise beaver tail
Smith & Alexander mag well
Fiber Optic front site
Ambi thumb safety
Extended mag release
Smooth as butter action with sweet trigger pull...

If you add up the cost of the parts & time to do the mods vs what I paid for it I almost stole it....

NAA.

Thats your problem

Why does everything revolve around Norinco around here?

"Hey, should I buy this made in Canada Para"? - NO, GET A NORINCO!
"Hey, what about this Glock"? - Nope, you're dumb. Get a Norc!
"Hey, I want a top shelf 1911, anything available"? - Get a Norinco and dump $2K into it! That's what I would do.
"Hey, I just bought a Wilson Combat" - You idiot, you could have had 10 Norincos for that.......

No offense Bjhill, but I'm kind of tired of the Norinco fan boys around here. This is nothing against you personally.

I have a few 1911,s and for the money and a little tweaking they are not a bad buy.

Oh, I'm sure they're great guns considering what they retail for.

If you can buy a Norinco and shot it for what it is, that's great. What I dislike is spending a little money on something initially, becoming dissatisfied with it and then spending more money making it what I want. I would rather just buy what I want to begin with.

I'm confused...I thought you were inquiring about "build your own type" project.

For something like this I have also purchased Norinco. To be honest I don’t know anything about Caspain and it does bug me that Norinco says “made in China,” but I couldn’t pass up the bargain -- I don’t even find the fit and finish on Norinco bad.

Can you tell us more about Caspain?

Caspian is a US company that makes 1911 slides and frames.

You buy the components from them and build your own rig. If you already had a frame, you could just buy a slide and be done with it, but they also have true "build it yourself" kits where you supply the trigger, main spring housing, barrel, sights, etc and fit everything yourself. You would also have to apply your own finish to the slide, but they do offer stainless versions as well.

Really, it would be no different from buying a Norinco, stripping it and installing your own parts, but without the "made in China".

Yes, roughly 16 years ago. Had them make me a bespoke barstock slide from their pizza menu options list. Mine came with a 9mm/.38 Super breechface, flared and lowered ejection port, front serrations, and their deluxe Bo-Mar rear sight cut.

Everything arrived exactly as ordered. Exceptionally nice machining work; flat flats and clean, sharp edges. Had a local IPSC pistolsmith fit it, and a Bar-Sto 9mm barrel, to a Colt Series 70 bottom end that had a hopeless barrel and a cosmetically buggered slide, and got a very good-shooting pistol out of it.

Presuming their present quality's at least what it was in the mid-90s, I would recommend their slides unreservedly. If I were building another 1911 frankenstein-style, they'd again be my choice for the slide if I couldn't get SVI to make one to my taste.

Please stop the norinco fight.

Caspian build very good part.
Freedom Ventures sales all the Part you need, frame slide and small part...
Take a lool to my 2 next build
