Any interest in "My .22 mag shoots 1/2" or 3/4" groups @ 100yard challenge????

Any rimfire can play - Check, organize by caliber, sure that's fair, match .22 LRs will dominate otherwise.

Target - I still think 4 groups versus 5. Think of what you get out of a box of ammo (50 rounds). Shooting 4 groups allows you to make two attempts with allowance for 10 sighter shots. 5 groups, two attempts, no allowance for sighters, bring another box of ammo. With .17 HMR floating around $20/box, same with match grade .22 LR (not sure about .22 Mag prices, don't own one), conserving some ammo while shooting this appeals to me. Use whatever target you prefer, so long as it is clean of any non-attempt shots, aside from sighters shot at designated sighter bulls.

If you want the average for the .22 Mag at 1.5" that's cool, I don't know what to expect from them accuracy wise. For the .22 LRs, that's just too easy, it's supposed to be a challenge, right? Same with .17 HMR, I still say keep these two under 1" average, and that is plenty attainable while still being challenging. By using an average, you have allowance for one group going sideways, which will happen often at 100 yards.

This puts it nicely. Four groups of five shots. That gives two attempts with a box of 50 rounds. Any target configuration will do so long as the entire target sheet is shown. A fifth bull on the target sheet for sighters is good (count the best four of five for score). The average group size should be one inch or better to qualify. If 22WMR needs a larger qualifying size, so be it. Posts should show the entire target, the four groups measured with calipers, and a photo of the rifle. Additionally, the post should include group sizes and the four group average size (not just on the pictures, which can disappear over time as people edit photobucket or imgur etc.)

I would suggest that nobody posts any attempts in this thread. I think a separate thread with all the requirements should be started to avoid a bunch of clutter.

Grauhanen has it right. The lack of anything approaching match-level ammo will make this an all-but-impossible standard unless you increase the group size to 1.0" at 100 yards. Even at that, it will be very difficult to put 5 consecutive <1.0" groups on a card with the .22 WMR. With a couple of Anschutz 1720s and good scopes, the best I've been able to do has been closer to 1.1" - 1.2" with any consistency, and that with the best ammo I could find for the rifles (Remington 33-gr. AccuTip-V and Hornady 30 gr. V-Max). However, with the .17 HMR, this might be a doable challenge at 1.0", although again, it won't be easy. Even though neither cartridge was designed for match precision, the .17 HMR seems to regularly do better than the .22 mag. My Anschutz 1727F in .17 HMR has given me 5 consecutive <1.0" groups on occasion, working with a huge scope (Leupold 45X). Setting the criterion at 1/2" is totally unrealistic with either cartridge, and 3/4" will get few qualifiers. It's the ammo....

Totally agree. Only targets for entry. No comments. When a score is posted on page #1, there will be a reference as to where the target is posted.

UTG has done a remarkable job on his post. More remarkable is the fact he has continued considering there are pages of comments without a target posted for score.

Reposting a target with a comment like "nice Target Bob" would be history.

Thank you again UTG!

I concur with SP's post which was part of the reason for offering a four target example.

Ok so can we all agree that the following is correct?

ANY rimfire can enter.
Organized by caliber ie... .22, .22mag, 17hmr ect..
1 target of users choice with 5 shot groups at 4 targets.
.22mag is minimum 1.5" group (average)
1" group for the other rimfires. (average)
Picture of gun, rest, ammo, target must have average written on with caliper used for verification.
Can only post a target IF you achieve the desired requirements!!!!! Don't post if your close.... We could use this thread for all that if need be...

I personally want to keep it pretty simple. It may be a challenge but its all for fun. IF we can agree on all this, lets start the new thread and start tossing some lead down @100yards! I'll be out this coming Saturday and Sunday bush camping and will make many attempts at my personal best!

Thanks for all the interest, & comments!!!!! I'm glad to see others want this to happen like myself!

Let's get this challenge thread up and running! The 1813 is definitely up too the task. This would also help mix up my rimfire shooting. Was getting bored with 50 yds grouping.

Hey Savagecanuck, why don't you get into the monthly RFC 100 yard challenges? It's hosted in the CZ forum, but there is an "Honorary" class for non-CZ rifles. Fun new targets every month :d next month we're doing an army man target of my design :)

I'm running out of rimfires for the 1/2" @ 50 challenge ( got a cooey 60 and a Marlin youth left - unless I buy something :ar15: ) and would be interested in this one for sure.
Had the CZ and Ar Tac punching pretty good @ 100 last night and my 17 should see some sunlight every once in awhile.

My question - can a 5mm play in the 22mag category?

You got enough 5mm ammo to play?
Man, that stuff is nearly un-obtanium here on the West Coast.
Shoot, play and post the pictures ...

I have 650ish rounds, I got 8 boxes from a vendor in your area a couple years ago right before they stopped making it. if i would have known that i would have got 3 or so bricks. Have a few of the old green rem ones - so 2 loads to try. Mostly want to accuracy test it, most of them touch at 25yrds with open sights so will see what it can do hopefully.

I have a feeling after the weekend we will start seeing some attempts in the official thread, I'm looking forward to it!
