John,
Take a look at the picture of the last M-14 Wet Coast group grope ...

Some of that stuff looks somewhat Tacticool to me.
If you believe a full powered 7.62 NATO main Battle Rifle has a "tactical" role in CQB, then check out the folding stock shorty "carbine". Or the wood stocked shorty with the comp.
If you believe an MBR should be more "tactical" for long range shooting, as perhaps a designated squad marksman rifle, or a sniper spotter's rifle, then the accuracy mods, big scopes, bipods and custom stocks can do that nicely ... like Thomas' pistol grip stock with comp, or my JAE 100 stocked / scoped / comped rifles.
And most of these "tactical" mods are within the ability of a
careful do-it-yourselfer. Because it is so difficult, and so expensive, to trick out our 14s with imported US nasty bits, we Canucks are doing lots of innovative things for ourselves, and that is what the Wet Coast meetings are mostly about ... showing enthusiasts how to do-it-yourself.
Keep your eye on the Wet Coast threads ...
next month we will be chopping off barrels,
and Thomas and I will be racing to unveil our
"tactical" stocks. with aluminum bedding. Thomas is going with a composite stock, with aluminum bedding blocks embedded, his "JAE or Macmillan" competitor, and I am going with almost all ALUMINUM SQUARE TUBING, for a SAGE?TROY?MARSTAR? type FUGLY THING.
PS: as soon as I can spend some quality time in my basement, I'll also be working on a rail that goes from forend to rear sight, and a new clamp on front sight/flashider and ....
but the first step is still to clean the basement.

I will be posting do it yourself instructions for my MUNIMULA stock, and anyone with a drill press and a table saw should be able to duplicate my design for under $ 100
