I'm looking at purchasing my first pistol and I would eventually like to start competitive shooting at my local club. For all those IPSC shooters reading this...

What do you shoot competitively?

What pistols are best for IPSC?

What is your dream handgun?

Started out in Standard with a modified Norc, since moved to Production using a K100.

Whatever's within the rules to use, you can use. Some may not fit your hands, egonomics, bad mojo feeling etc.

Dream handgun.....that would be a Trubor Grandmaster chambered in 357Sig. Just thinking of one makes me go Schwing! but the price brings me back to reality.

(E)

I am using a Baby Eagle for production. I say use whatever you got or can afford-just make sure you get out there and use it!
If I had have known more about it, I would have bought something I could carry cocked and locked as opposed to something with a DA trigger. I bought the Baby Eagle before I got into IPSC. My next gun will be an STI Edge probably.

ipsc

Most folks are using a 1911 variant or a glock. A glock is reliable and competitive right out of the box. A 1911 is reliable and competitive after spending enough to buy atleast a couple of pistols.

Before anyone flames me I shoot a 1911 and love it.

I am shooting a Tanfoglio Limited Custom and now also have a Limited Custom II. You can see both of these guns on the Freedom Ventures page. I started shooting IPSC in 1985 and have shot every platform there is to shoot, and of them all I enjoy shooting these two guns the most. This particular model is for Standard Division, but they also have the Stock II built on the same heavy frame for Production Division.

Awesome guns for the money.

what's IPSC?

It's a game where people run around with large balls of mud on their feet, nursing a hangover, trying to perform fine muscle control tasks with a expensive firearm and convincing it to function with old and deformed brass.

Afterwards they rant and rave at each other quoting passages from a small red book. :p

guns for IPSC

I started 2 years ago with a Glock 35 in Standard and this year I'd a Glock 22 shooting in Production, and now I'm looking to improve my results with a Tanfoglio Custom Limited...
I'd say to start with a reliable, fool proof and cheap gun like the Glock in Production Division and spend more money on ammo, and after you got some training you can challenge the Standard Division where you'll compete against experienced guys with high performance guns that are $2000 and up...
Let us know what did you get.
Good luck.

What is your dream handgun?

L in the near future. I would love to own the GOLD plated Edge :pirate:

thnx guys

try out other things

I've only played for a couple of years now .
To answer question 1 , this is what I did so far :
I started out with a Glock 21 ( should've gone to a 17 or 22 - today probably a M&P ) in production . I shot for two years - one in IPSC .
Then I jumped to standard with a Para p14-45 for two seasons .
I'm waiting for my STI Truesight to show up and I think I will be with it for quite some time .
Question # 2-Just get a pistol that fits you and that's reliable .Something cheap to feed would be a plus .
Question #3 - Yeah that gold plated STI would be it .

Been shooting since 2004

STI Gun's...

Dream gun's Custom STI Open gun, getting my last one next month.... :)

Now I'm not sold on one particular compagny but switching on every second gun is sort of a waste of money, all my gun fit the same holster and pouches...ect for the rest...Tanfoglio are very nice and now available in canada....

Shoot standard with a SW1911, the only add on has been a beveled well magazine and an ambi thumb safety. Since Ihad carpian problem, and my doc want me to stop shooting !!!! I bought a Sig P226R dak trigger in 9mm for this year. this way, I will continue to shoot my match. Best handgun to start is a good and cheap pistols like a CZ75B or glock 17, glock trigger is easier. Start in production, with 9MM, ammo cost is a lot cheaper than .40 or .45. more bang for the money, and as you learn to love this sport, You will had the time to see what the other gent are shooting, may be tried a couple, and be able to make your own idea of what is the perfect gun for you in IPSC.
Good fun is awaiting for you
