Any issues with LAR15 Coupler?

Does anyone have any feedback on the LAR15 coupler from Questar?

Things i'm looking for are any issues with misfeed from the mag on the bottom after firing 10 rounds from the top mag?

Any problems using the mag in the prone position? (I guess it's not a good idea to put the open end of the mag down in the supported firing position)

Has anyone had any issues with using the coupler in a tac vest? Mag getting caught in the pouch?

Also, any opinions on LAR15 coupler mags vs 1 LAR15mag with a magpul or magpul ranger plate on the bottom?

Thanks for your time.

The LAR15 couplers from Questar are plastic. The DLASK ones are way better and made of solid aluminum. They are much more expensive though. As for the ranger plates, they work well, but you will only be able to seat 9 rounds in a LAR mag, unless you Dremel the follower a bit.

I've seen plastic ones with several thousand rounds through them start to come loose so one mag slips off.

Simple problem, simple solution - duct tape.

I've found the metal ones to be way superior. I also have some for sale (i decided to run uncoupled mags in the end).

My mags slide off the couplers as well. Everything was new. A couple of wraps of electrical tape solved the problem though.

Prone is a bad idea, you'll damage the mag lips digging them into the dirt. I saw a guy at an SR match use mag covers on them when he went prone. He told me the brand but I recall at the moment. Same idea as the PMAG covers but not them.

I ended up dumping the couplers and putting magpulls on them. The hard plastic kind. I had to dremel the front of the pull to make the mag drop free. If not, the plastic tab hooks the follower spring and pushes it into the narrow portion of the mag spreading it. Bolivar did a post describing the process.

I didn't have any problems getting them out of a vest with either the couplers or the pulls on the mags.

Last weekend's SR match at Borden I messed up my round count and ended up jamming a mag loaded with 9 rounds in on a closed bolt. I guess that's not surprising that it worked though since it only had 9 in the mag.

If you want to run coupled mags prone, you could just assume the bottom mag is screwed and it will only serve as an extension.

There is a guy who is making plastic extensions for the bottom of LAR mags, to give them the same overall length as 30 rounders. They will be somewhat cheaper than the cost of a second LAR and a coupler. I'm hoping to get hold of some this fall so I can play with them a bit and maybe run them in a CQB match (loaded with 5 of course). Fingers crossed.

CGN sponsors Wolverine, TSE, and Canada Ammo all carry a new, less expensive version of the aluminum coupler.

I use both. The dlask ones took a little fiddling with to get them on but they are solid. The plastic Questar ones are just fine. If I have to use the rifle prone, I just use single mags.

Ive been like the Dlask ones .. but dont like the price I paid for them. I run 6 and they have all been exceptional (range and tac matches).

I think the price is right for the Questar ones - but as mentioned - a little bit of duct tape goes a long way !
But breakage is a real issue with hese. but for $5.99 you cant go wrong.

I bought tapco mag covers from hi cal, doubled up they protect feed lips fine when prone

Great idea - been looking for some locally...

they also protect from dropping a mag. but are a pain if you are "dropping and flipping" ... still havent mastered that art of articulation yet :)

I used the plastic couplers to join 2 mags end to end. Then I used a Promag steel coupler to clamp 2 joint magazines together. The result is 4 mags are held tight.
