Not sure how I managed to miss these photos last year. I have one of those 14” M87 barrels. It currently sits on an older M37 2 3/4” receiver. I’d always wanted to spruce it up a bit, remove the engraving, Parkerize the receiver, maybe even add Rem rifle sights, Vang Comp the barrel. While completely impractical/expensive I’d like to relocate the barrel lug so it’s a 1/4” from the edge and install a longer mag tube. No idea if that would let me squeeze in an extra round or not but it’s always bugged me how much of the barrel sticks out. Maybe if I win the lotto I’ll let Casey take a crack at it.
Anyway, a triple shooting in my building (1xDOA) recently has brought shotguns to the forefront of my mind. Might just pull it out, oil it up, slap on the sidesaddle I picked up in the EE and keep a box of buck close by.

I have a 37 but I got it re blued a few years ago and some of the ingraving came off on one side I was really pissed about that . I would like to see if the engraving could be redone ? The gun has sentimental value to me !Could this be done or would it be really expensive ?

Hand-graving would be very expensive to do. It is likely that when it was reblued, the smith had to sand the receiver and therefore made the engraving shallower/faint. Theoretically with modern applications of laser etching/graving, you could find someone who can put a particular pattern or original pattern on.

One interesting tidbit one discovers regards this design you can verify its unloaded or loaded condition very quickly. With the 12 gauge unloaded firearm pull back the slide about one inch. You can place your finger inside the empty chamber and in same finger sweep press the magazine follower verify lack of shotshell.
Now you pump it into battery position, barrel pointed safely, press the trigger, now the hammer is forward easing hammer spring tension.
And at a mere glance only the bottom side ejection port facing you, one can see no shells in magazine and the hammer forward.
If you so desire the chamber-magazine finger sweep can be done by feel only. And then press trigger you can feel the forward tip of hammer in its resting position.
Now this touch & see check super easy on a 12 gauge. On the 20 gauge one can just barely feel the resting forward hammer tip. On the newer 28 you have to look down to see the hammer forward position therefore firearm decocked. It's hammer does not extend below the bolt carrier in forward resting position on the 28.
I don't own a 16 gauge myself.
