Any Kiplauf fans out there?

I've always like the single shot break actions, but the ones I like have cost....ummm....lots. They are compact, lightweight and break down into easy to carry little cases.

Some of the nicer ones are the Blaser K95 in various format, Merkel's super sweet little K3 Stutzen and of course the Krieghoff Hubertus. Although the Hubertus is absolutely beautiful, I think I'd go with the relatively modest Merkel K3 Stutzen, although the K95 Stutzen Black Edition is also very nice.

Do any of you own and hunt with this type of rifle? And yes, the Baikal counts. :)
 
I dont have one but I agree that they are very appealing. Good looking, light, short and classy. I would like one in 7x65R.
 
I have a poor mans Kiplauf. It's a Savage model 219 in 30-30 win. It's got an older Burris 4X scope with a post reticle in it. For an economy grade rifle it is very well made, it has a decent trigger on it and will put most factory ammo into about two inches ( 3 shots ) at 100 yrds. It's light , handy and does exactly what it was designed to do. I own quite a few higher end rifles, but this one is one of my favourites.

Carried a Baikal in 7.62x39 this fall, the gun is an absolute joy. Carries easy and shoots supremely accurately for as long as I can ignore the heavy long trigger pull at the bench, but I don`t even notice it in the field as a few grouse can attest to. I bought it thinking it would be a perfect light and gentle recoiling gun for my girlfriend to chase deer with, she hates the trigger pull and chose her grandfathers Lee Enfield sporter. So I`m probably going to try and trade it or sell it towards either an O/U or a Ruger No1 in either 7x57 or .270 wcf.
 
Not yet, but a Merkel, Blaser or Krieghoff is on my to do list. I might just cheap out and try a Brno Effect, they look appealing if available in rimmed cartridges in North America. For reasons of ignorance the North American market seems to insist on rimless cartridges in single shot and double barrel rifles, based on ignorance of the advantages of a simple extractor for a rimmed cartridge I suppose. A Kipplauf style rifle in 7x65R would be very appealing and appropriate for most of my hunting.
 
I picked up a K1 Merkel a couple of yrs ago, 7mag, love it. It is a treat to carry, it shoots decently. It doesn't #### on closing, has to be manually cocked, same as a Blaser. I don't know if the Kreighoff is #### on closing or not, haven't looked at the specs on it. My Kreighoff double is cocked on closing, a better setup by far, just decock it to carry, cocking it is easy, better than the Merkel/Blaser setup.
 
The Old Man had a TCR that he sold to a board member a few years ago. Had a 30-06 and 22-250 barrel. That wasn't a great one to sell. Wish he still had it.
 
There is a gunsmith in Hope, BC, who has done lots of customizing TCR's. IIRC his name is Hans Schifermier (sp?)
 
I owned and enjoyed a Baikal single in 7.62x39 for a couple of years. It was an endearing little POS that produced decent accuracy and I took a number of coyotes with it. Drat! If I'd known I had a "kipplauf" I might have kept it! :)

I guess I'll have to settle for my H&R Buffalo Classics...big-bore kipplauf anyone? Kippgeboomlaufen?

You stated "have" cost, did you own one of these little German gems? If so, which one, because I always appreciated them.

No, I meant there have been none that I really like that do not cost more than I am willing to spend. I was very sorely tempted by a sweet little Merkel but it was in .270 Win and I passed. Had it been in 7x57 it would have come home with me. I also prefer the Stutzen, so if I ever do buy one it will have to be exactly what I want.

I was tempted as well with the Merkel but it was in a 7mm Remington magnum. I believe that is to much cartridge for a super ultra lightweight that would result in a nervous twitch for me. I decided on a Luxus Arms chambered in the 308 Winchester which I purchased for myself about 1.5 months ago....still in the box for my Christmas gift. Can't wait to get to the range with new developed loads and needless to say it's a great looking firearm and points like a custom fit. My first Kipplauf!
