Any left handers shoot rh rifles??

Im having a bit of a problem deciding what to buy. I was going to buy the weatherby 257 accumark in L.H. The cost is $1900 and i dont care for the stock/barrel length 24" and my local dealer doesnt take any custom orders. I really like the new remington model 700 lss in 257 but no rh models and remington doesnt do custom orders. The model 700 is $1000 and every thing about the gun i like(except rh bolt) the stock and the new trigger. The weatherby is well over $2000 with a few custom options if i could get them and i still dont know if i would even like the gun because i would have find another dealer and order unseen. I basically have these two choices any comments/help would be great.

My step-brother is left handed, as are three of my hunting and shooting buddies. all started with RH rifles (my SB didn't switch until I bought him a LH rifle), and some still do. I suggest you buy a LH savage, and rebarrel it for whatever cartridge you want, it will still be cheaper then the Wby. - dan
 
Yes, all my bolt action rifles are right hand bolt and I'm a lefty. I wouldn't consider switching, its just fine for me. That's what I'm familiar and comfortable with. I just bring the right hand back and work the bolt. If I wanted rapid fire, I wouldn't be shooting a bolt gun. I shoot a bolt gun for long range accuracy and the ability to handle a powerful cartridge.

I'm also a southpaw [and left eye dominant] that only owns right handed bolt rifles, too.

Of course. Unless you want to pay the bit of extra money for a LH rifle, you shoot a RH rifle. Mind you, it's not surprising they'd make a 'limited edition' RH only. Bigger market.
 
I am left eye dominant but right handed. I can shoot either way but I usually shoot left handed with a RH rifle
 
I sit from dawn to dusk in a treestand/blind. I do not push bush so i think i will get the Remington. I wonder if it will be as accurate as the weatherby. I was considering a sub moa Weatherby.

It seems like you have had the Rem in your hands - that's great. Not ALL RH rifles are easily fired left handed - especially models with a roll-over cheek-piece that's sharp along the top edge. It's important to try shouldering the rifle first to make sure it's comfortable for you. As I said, I do shoot RH bolt guns lefty style but I CAN'T shoot a buddys Parker Hale due to the high roll-over cheek-piece.

So, it's 100% OK to shoot a RH bolt gun as a lefty. Although I do have some LH bolt guns, which should be easier to use, sometimes they feel 'wierd' because I've used RH guns for so long. Especially when shooting off a bi-pod or a rest, it's nice to have the port right in front of you so you don't have to reach around the gun to put another round in the chamber. I especialy like varmint shooting like this.

With some practice, you can be just as proficient cycling the bolt - either way.

I doubt you will regret getting the Remington 700. Save the money for good scope mount, rings, scope and ammo. Not that I think you will have any accuracy issues with the Remington, but some time spent trying various loads will get you as accurate as you need for hunting.
 
Im a true lefty beign left handed with my left eye dominat. I shoot both right and left handed rifles. I either work the bolt over top of the scope or sligthly lower the rifle. I can shoot both ways now since i have practiced it so it doesnt matter what gun i use but im better lefthanded. I looked at buying a weatherby mark5 left hand but i bought a remignton BDL and spent the rest of the money i saved on a really good scope and rings and the rest on reloading equipment and the accuracy isnt any different.

Why dont you conntact montana actions and get one of their lefthanded barrelled actions lefthand in what ever caliber you want and it will cost you about the same money as the weatherby would and it would be in 257 weatherby if you wanted it to be.

i am a lefty and i recently switched to right and it seems to be working for me sub 1/4 moa groups at 100 i do still shoot left handed sg just because it feels awkward when i try and swing the gun and if you are considering selling the gun in the future i find it easier to get rid of a right hand gun than it is a lefty

Im a true lefty, but havent owned a left hand rifle in close to 4 years.
I've got pretty good at shooting right hand bolt actions even offhand. I've had good luck with short bolt throw rifles. I threw around the idea of buying a left hand rifle again this fall, but found that I still felt more comfortable shooting a RH boltgun. If it aint broke... dont fix it. (or confuse it)
 
Ok i have to ask a few stupid questions. Many have said buy an left handed rifle and have it rebarrel it. I did check out the montana actions as well and they have a 257 action in stainless. What i am wondering is what is the process for a rebarrel. I would have to buy an lh rifle and have a smith rebarel it into 257. Does the quality of the donor rifle affect the quality of the job when completed (browning remington savage).What calliber donor rifle a 7mm. How much does it cost for the rebarel job on average.
