Quick question - do any of you who are left-handed shoot standard A2/A3/A4 ARs? If so, do you end up eating the spent casings, or does the case deflector keep you from getting hit??

A fellow who's looking at getting into ARs asked me this, and I'm not sure whether to tell him to get into the Stag Arms 'lefty uppers', or whether a normal one would work OK for him.

Edited to add: Thanks for all the replies, appreciate everyone's feedback!

thanks

Never had a problem.
Had a few casings go down my shirt but probably was the guy next to me.
As for manipulating the saftey, mag release ect, you adapt to it. I can manipulate the rifle as fast as a righty can now.

Not an issue with a Colt A2 - most problems caused by brass bouncing off port fittings / shields / etc. when shooting indoors.

But Stags are hard to beat, and for a left hand shooter the Stag leftys are a good choice. I'm very pleased with my 15-L.

The AR was designed to be as ambi friendly as possible. If you get a really early model without the case deflector it is brutal (personal experience). Normal Ar's are a non issue for lefties.
