Any legal issue to use a "Blue Gun" in back yard

Really guys? A green plastic gun in the backyard is going to cause trouble in your neighbourhoods? Wow, I thought I lived in the nanny-state capital of Canada...guess I’ve got it pretty good after all compared to some of you.

Have you not read any kind of news, listened to the radio in the last 2-3 years???

You'd be amazed at what people would call the cops for.

OP is correct (unfortunately) in being pseudo-paranoid.

I would not be amazed at what people call the cops for...trust me when I say I know very well some of the stupid things that get called in. I also know what I do in my backyard that’s firearms related with no issues and I can’t believe you guys all live in neighbourhoods where a green plastic gun would result in a 911 call...How much is lived experience and how much is just fear? Maybe if we want to turn the tide a bit we should be less timid. YMMV obviously.

I live in a neighborhood where just talking about a green gun would result in a 911 call. ;)

Best we can do is to emudulcate non-gun peoples and desensitize them by exposing them correctly to the gun world and how gun owners are mostly good people.

All depends on who your neighbours are, and what terms you are on with them. My neighbour calls the cops if I blow snow onto his property.

I don't think the blue gun will be the issue. It will be your neighbors probably think your a little nuts, running around and ducking when nothing there.

I used to run around the neighbourhood in random people’s front yard with cap guns with the orange removed! Mind you it would be rather strange if I saw an adult doing that.

This is the only response to this situation,

No. The op didn’t ask if it was smart, the op asked if it was legal as tomo333 pointed out.

Just remember the OP asked if there was any legal issue.

And as tomo333 explained it is legal. Smart really depends on the OP’s neighbours, legality does not.

I agree.

On the other hand, if you are worried about your neighbours doing bs call your local police and tell them what you going to be doing. I know it sounds like an overkill and encroachment on your rights but when 911 gets a call about a neighbour with a gun they dont know what kind of a gun that is. And if you have restricteds registered to your address than it just makes the complaint that more plausible (not all calls to 911 are legit, cough-cough)..

This is a very good idea^^^. I live out in the country, on the shore of a lake. During the winter I like to have my sons over and we shoot clays on the frozen lake. Over the years I have made it a habit to call the local RCMP before we do this, just in case. Yes, there have been calls and they simply tell them that they are aware of this and that it is being done safely. I have only had one time where a very rabidly anti in the area came by and tried to stop us. He then made a very exaggerated complaint to the local detachment. They came by and had a look, then charged him with mischief. I have not had a problem since. I have even had other neighbors join us, they love it.

"Airsoft guns are devices that have a low muzzle velocity and muzzle energy, and usually discharge projectiles made out of a substance such as plastic or wax rather than metal. An airsoft gun, firing a .20g 6mm plastic pellet, with a muzzle velocity below 111.6 m/s (366 fps), and resembling with near precision an existing make and model of a firearm, other than an antique firearm, is a replica firearm and therefore a prohibited device."

Wow, so airsoft guns are prohibited hey....
wonder if the all the stores that import and sell these daily know this....
Crock of $h@t.
Probably best to refer to the Firearms act and not the RCMP.

My Google fu isn't great today and I cannot find the definitions of replica firearms in the act or corresponding legislation.
Anyone else see this anywhere?
All I could come up with is more RCMP crap.
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/air_gun-arme_air-eng.htm
Both RCMP pages have links to portions of the act but they do not define anything. The only place I see definitions is on the RCMP website and they are known for their own interpretations, not always the actual law.

It might be legal but I wouldn't recommend it especially if you own real firearms as well. Imagine neighbor reports man in back yard running around with gun and they check your address and find out you have real guns. You might get a visit from swat. If a neighbor doesn't like you, they can say that they feel threatened etc. Remember, a replica firearm is treated as a REAL firearm if charged in a criminal offense.

Better to practice inside or in the garage etc. It's sad but that is the current state we live in now.

Your only other option would be to speak to your neighbors ahead of time.

As a matter of fact, blue guns are considered replicas in Canada and are therefore prohibited.

You can’t even buy one legally in canada unless your LEO. I know I tried finding one for the longest time and no one would ship up here or sell to a civilian if it was already in Canada.

At least this was my experience and I was told they were considered replicas.

Interesting, there are lots of them available online in Canada from Amazon.ca, to martial arts shops, to tactical stores. Just had a brief look and none made any mention of LEO sales only.

Not a fact.

"The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) receives many enquiries from people wondering whether an imitation firearm would be considered a replica if it resembles a real firearm in many ways, but is made of clear or brightly coloured plastic, or has significant dimensional differences. Many of these devices need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. As a general rule, however, devices significantly smaller or larger than the real version are not classified as replica firearms."

So... my AR-15 pen from Canam may or may not be a prohibited weapon.

I can't see it taking much more than 2 years to get a classification though.
