any love for the 7-30 waters?

Well, I'm a big time 94 fan, I've had 'em all except the Waters. Was gonna git one, but I did read somewhere that it was not a "great" cal in any way, so I did not persuse it any further! And that's it! If you go the route, I'd like to hear your results and opinions on it, please keep us posted.

The only rifle chambered in it was the Model 94. I thought all 7-30 Waters had 24" barrels although a poster here last year claimed to have an original with a 20" barrel.
It is the .30-30 case necked to 7mm and was loaded with a 140-grain flatnose at, IIRC, about 2550 f.p.s.
There were several, some unfired, trading hands in the EE over the last couple of years.

I love the 7-30. Saying its a necked down 30-30 is not quite right though as the shoulder is moved forward a fair bit. I load 139gr Hornadys to 2500 and some 155gr Chinchaga's at 2200. I was still fire forming so the accuracy and velocities may change. My 10 year old son shot about a box out of it last trip out. I shot 3 into an inch at 50 yards just to try it. I am not good with open sights and this should be better.

Mine is a 20" bbl one and has no checkering. It was new in box when i picked it up a year and a bit ago. I would like to get a 24" also to try.

I have a 94 in 7-30 and it is rapidly becoming one of my favorite guns. I just purchased it from a Nut here a while back with brass, dies, and some factory rounds. It shoots extremely well (very accurate), has noticeably less recoil than a 30-30, and has better ballistics. The only down side is the unavailability of suitable flat nosed bullets for reloading. I intend to use it this fall on deer as a 'two round' rifle with Barnes TSX. I like my 94AE in. 307 as well, for similar reasons. :)

I have a TC Contender carbine with 20" barrel in 7-30 Waters, and have, unfortunately, passed a couple of times on Win 94's chambered in 7-30. My favourite of the Winnies is the 24" rifle configuration --- I just like the way the long barrel sits out, and I'm sure it points like a dream.

The Contender has the option to use spire point bullets, so I load the 120gr Nosler partition. I haven't weighed it, but the scoped Contender is very compact and svelt for hiking around.

and I would be more than willing to take it off of your hands if you ever decide to sell...

I have been wanting a 7-30 s/s Contender for a very long time now it will be perfect for my youngest son when he gets a little older.
