Any love here for the old Winchester 1300 Defenders?

My brother keeps a wooden stocked 1300 like yours in the shop on the farm for anything that needs to get shot. Like GRAIN posted I have a Winchester 120 that I likely spent more on to cerakote than I paid for it. Mine dosen't get shot very much but I like it enough not to sell. It spends its summers at our cottage or as a camp gun on hunting trips.

After I got my {Brown paper} PAL, the 1st thing I bought was a Russain SKS. Maybe $100 or $125 at most. The 2nd thing I bought was a Winchester Defender. Pretty sure it was around $200 or $250 new. Being 18, I immediately put a pistol grip & a fore-pistol grip on it.
Took the fore-grip off after a few 3" magnums..really 'vibrated' down'. It was a Matt finish? perhaps. It came with black plastic furniture. Had a couple over the years{wood is much. nicer}...not atm, unfortunately.

The Winchester 1300 Defender in particular is one pump action shotgun I wouldn't mind getting my hands on provided I could get one for a reasonable price, plus it's one of the guns from Max Payne that I'd love to own along side the Steyr SSG69 and the Colt 733.

Long before the current made-in-Turkey Wnchester SXPs, there existed the 1300 series, based loosely on the classic Model 12. Love the Defender version of these things. Smooth-like-butter action, light, and 100% reliable.

Anybody else into them?

Had the pistol grip one 45 years ago. Couldn't hit much with it. Was getting 2-3 outta 5 clay birds, so sold it, shooting it pistol style..... Was the coolest looking around at the time though. Used it in my wedding pics. Me & Groomsmen, with our shotguns, in our Tuxs before the event. Shotgun Wedding Pic! Not sharing.....

Sorry; brain fart.... 35 yrs ago.

picked up the ATI stock after having to tracka shot bear in some really nasty thick growth, the ability to shorten the stock, and the pistol grip, made it more handy, haven’t used it in a long while, hence the sale

My Winchester 1300 Cantalever Rifled Slug baby, bought new, is a keeper.
It goes to the range once a year, @ $5-7/shot for some sabots & 100 yd grouping tests, then out for some deer wishing for 2 weeks.
Then, back to it's nest until next fall.

My longest shotgun kill with it, ranged @ 75Yrds, with Winchester Partion Gold 385 gr, 2 3/4".

8 pointer dropped like a sack of flour, in his tracks.
Didn't need the second after pumping....

Love that 1300.

Never selling that baby, even though that ammo that it loved is no longer available.
Switched to Hornady and they are grouping sweet outta it too......
It kicks a wee bit, but usually only 1 shot needed, to do the job.......

Defender, wasn't much of a hunting gun, so let it go 25 years ago.

Other lil sweeties have replaced it now.

Defender is still a good solid find, if you can get one for a decent price.... like $300-400 Cdn.

Had Savage 212, Browning Gold Slug, H&R Tracker 11 Single, all rifled. None could match the 1300, for reliablility and accurracy. So, they all gone now.... 1300 stays.

You have to sell some, once in a while, to show her, that "it's not that big of a problem"....... ;)
Traded in 5, not often used, towards Purdy B 1301 Tac C Kitty..... Wifey hasn't dissed me yet...... as long as I purge a few, along the journey.>>>>> Only so much room in the nest too.........

Defenders (in my experience) usually go for $400-$450 plus shipping. More than reasonable for what they are IMHO.

Wow. Some great looking guns. And some very rare all stainless ones. I was never a fan of the blued receiver and stainless barrel though. I recently sold my blued defender but I still have a Surefire forend for it. You don’t see too many of them. I upgraded the head to a Malkoff LED. I’m not sure if I’m going to list it or buy another defender. If anyone is interested, PM me.
