Any luck yet?

Like to know how others are doing Cold Lake-Bonnyville?
Particularly upland hunters. Was kind of hazie today. Three hours tromping around, I didn't see even a squirrel or whiskeyjack. Just very odd. Got one bird in three trips. I did notice lots of standing water in places I never seen before, probably from last winters snowfall meltoff.
Seems the lack of oil exploration no new survey trails in the bush this summer-fall. No one clearing old paths either. Spent lots of time climbing stepping over deadfalls.

Maybe with our first snowfall, more truths will be exposed?

I've been playing cat & mouse with this slippery Gypsy, ground bow hunting for 2 weeks.
I call him Two Fork, have had 2 chances but 20 yards too far & too much brush.
This is a nice WT where I hunt.

I let this little 5x5 pass a couple days ago.

This one showed up the other day, but I'd probably let him pass, I'm so set on Two Fork.

Been so damn warm out, its a tough go.
Lots of forkers, 3x3 & little 4x4's prancing about, could stick one of those almost every time I go play.
Snow would help so very much sorting out what Two Fork does.
Gun season starts where I bow hunt Nov 1, so I figure I'll just hold out for Two Fork till last days of Nov, then anything goes that's unlucky enough to stumble across me.

Great photos and stories everyone. I was out with a friend last night again with some luck. We heard some crashing in the distance and bunkered down only to then notice a cow about 400 yards away. After laughing at ourselves we noticed two mule bucks about 200 yards away. We watched them for a bit and decided my buddy would shoot the bigger one because he saw them first. We probably waited 30 minutes hoping a decent shot would come but had no luck. We were able to sneak out after we lost light and will be going back tonight to look around. We have until Nov 10th in that region before that season is over.

It was a pretty nice area, we walked about 5km and didn't see any other hunters besides a few driving the roads.

checked the cameras in the back yard, white tail doe and yearling have been visiting almost every night for the last 2 weeks

seen the small herd of mulies in the river valley on my way home 2 nights this week

not much but there is some movement, weather is changing this weekend, rain and snow with more seasonable temperatures in the forecast.

My oldest son called in this guy at the end of September in northren Alberta.Elk 2022.jpg

Cut my mule tag tonight on a plump meat buck, he was hanging out with a couple does up in a clearing higher than I was. Got a heads up from a friend that he was hanging around, he didn’t have tags on him so he gave me a text. I got up there quick and went for a hike, finally found him above me, hit him 130-135y uphill quartering away. Lunged him and hit the spine, saw that I nicked the heart once I had him gutted. Was a nice downhill drag, just finished getting him skinned and quartered.

Heading off for work on Friday so the pressure is off, I’ll have some time in November to try and connect with a wt buck and for the 3rd year straight I can give the wt doe’s a pass which I’m happy about. My season can continue and I’ve got more meat in the freezer, still have some of last year’s tank of a mulie buck, this guy's seems like he was a scrapper. One side’s antler is broken off at the fork, he’s not the biggest deer I’ve brought home but he’s also not the smallest lol.

Yes my buddy will be getting a care package, thankful for that heads up. Shot with a new to me LH Ruger scout rifle which was a treat, .308 180gr win superX was a full pass through. Dropped like a rock, got up and went right back down.

day 4 of my babine lake moose hunt.
Seen some cows but no bulls yet. Weather is unsettled and trending colder so hopefully that gets things moving.
Daybreak is coming soon ..... maybe this will be the day

well ..... still hunting for that bull.
spent the entire day on babine in the boat yesterday. nadda....
Today I am relocating from the homestead here at Bland's place and taking the atv up to the 5mile cabin where I will be by myself and hunting the area up in behind.
I'll be "off grid" for a few days
Found some big grizz tracks and loads of other bear sign in the areas on land that we have covered so far so hopefully the move down the lake will put me into some fresh sign.
weather is highly unsettled and supposed to be rain all day starting around 10am.... fun times!

hope everyone is getting some quality time in the woods
I'll be back in a few days with an update.

I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the news.

Me and my daughter got this little buck for our freezer 2 days ago. it also happens to be my first deer. we spotted a nice looking 3x3 but by the time we closed the 600m between us there was just 2 doe's, a fawn and this guy around. so after waiting a few minutes and not seeing the 3x3 we took this guy.
