Man it's been a long time since I've been on these forums. I am curious as to how many folks have a Makarov in their collection. I just picked a nice pm model and am wondering what is kicking around for parts and such.

Well, I have one. :D

Mags, Holsters, and miscellaneous parts are available from interammo (forum sponsor).

The hardest thing to find currently, is pre-rolled ammo. I was really hoping the folks at Tula-ammo were going to bring some from Russia in the next order, but then, yeah, Russia, Sanctions. No ammo.

Reliable as the tide though, whatever crap-ammo I feed it, It keeps chugging.

At some point Canadaammo had norinco 9x18mm ammo at a very cheap pricepoint
They were sold out before I got around to buying some....

I haven't played much with mine yet but I'm anxious to give it a work over. Military Arms Channel on youtube did a "Makarov torture test" that was amazing. Packed it full of mud, sand, drove over it with a jeep...still functioned without a hiccup.

...now that's a reliable gun!

Mak is one of the most reliable and simplest handgun in the world. It has just bare minimum amount of parts and some parts serve dual or tripple purpose in its operation. blowback design, very accurate as the barrel is fixed to the frame. In all respects its ak47 of the handgun world.
Mak's short commings are its cartridge and mag release. There are some versions that have that addressed but 9x18 is weak cartridge for modern handguns.
Any way, its very good hg that is still in use by various forces and police.

I have a pohib length bulgaian makarov. And almost 2 cases of ammo. If anyone is needing some ammo, I'd be wlling to sell some, but freight is a killer.
Some of the best pistol groups I've ever shot are with this gun. Very accurate, and totally reliable.

Can you not just trim down some 9mm brass to make 9x18? I would dye the case heads red or something after doing so you don't mix 9mm and 9x18 up but ya.

There were some restricted makarovs coming in from interammo (some in .380 as well) with restricted length barrels, but I read on another thread that those Russian imports are now banned. I wonder if the makarov's are still being made in China .... Maybe a restricted barrel version could be made there? Looks like a reliable shooter judging by YouTube.

From what I understand 9mm Luger brass can be trimmed down for reloading 9mm mak.

It will work but since 9mm bullets are about .356 and Makarov bullets are about .365 the finished rounds look kind of funky (hour glass shaped). Standard 9mm bullets will give awful accuracy as they are way undersized. 9mm Makarov moulds are available, however, if you want to cast your own.
