Any MAS 36-51 owners out there?

I have one! It is minty, matching with a February 1958 cartouche. What are you doing for ammo? I've found a couple boxes of berdan primed stuff, and some Syrian(w/ arabic headstamps) and French WW2 ammo. The latter 2 are just for the collection, not for shootin. Looking to cook some up out of 6.5 swede brass, and I'd like to get some blanks so I can use one of those golf ball launchers!

Aye-Aye Sir!

YUP!
Just bought a minty one along with a very pristine Polish M-44. :)

They're actually not a bad looking rifle. I wonder how hard it would be to convert one to 7.62 Nato? I heard somewhere it's been done.

I've got one - minty too, like they all are.

Anything's possible, but that conversion is a poor one to consider. You'd have to set the barrel back about 1/2" (as the 7.5x54 is fatter at the base than the 7.62x51), which ruins its collector value, and causes all kinds of problems with stock fit.

My Mas 36-51 was made in Oct 1956, All matching, darker wood, I thought it was oil soaked. But it is just dark from some handling. Nice grain, What wood did they use, I can see beech, but I have never seen a dark reddish streaky wood before?

Forget he 7.62 conversion, Hornady makes 7.5x54 MAS brass @ .39 ea. So reload is the way to go.

regards

Peter
