I am just getting into M&H Large frame Revolvers thru alot of Luck i have managed to get a Pocket Army with the Top strap in 44 M&H very hard to find the top strap ones in 44 M&H
I have a Open top pocket army as well.
I know Sportee was collecting theses but he dont post much anymore.
Im still looking for info parts ect so anyone else collecting theses.

How are they to shoot i dont have mine yet.
Both mine have the skull crusher grips. handy if that s**t house rat shows up in the outhouse again :p

I'm very much interested in Merwin Hlbert revolvers, and have been for some time. I just don't have the money required to throw around for good condition ones. I did luck into a 7 shot .32 on the .38 (mid size) rame. That little thing is a hoot to shoot. I missed out on a fixer-upper I could have afforded.

There is a fellow in Alberta who has a very impressive collection of them. Guy Poitras. I see him at gun shows now and then just to display. There is a collectors website out of North carolina. His name is Terry Wagner. Talked with him on the phone for quite a while. Nice guy.

Yours is 44 40 and Registered if it was 44 M&H cal that would make it a perscribed Antique you woulda sold it easy by now.

I Think there is lotsa Intrest but most of them are in 44 40 so have to be Registered.
I will be putting one thats set up to shoot 44 Sp Cowboy ammo in the ee down the Road and i bet it sells fast.
Most guys that PM me want the short barreled birds head grip with Skull crusher end on the grip.
Open top and closed top.
Mine will all be Perscribed Antiques by Caliber.

I got one comeing just like in your post with the picture.
and another with the top strap as well.
Mine are both perscribed Antiques
Im looking forward to theses as they are so diffrent.

Where you drunk when you posted this? Your spelling is off. I never have seen you post like that. lol

I had a real nice antique one 4-5 years a go. I wish I would never have sold it.
At the time I did not know what it was worth and sold it for 200.00
 
I tried to buy a .38 MH from the US not long ago, but CFC told me they didn't recognize the MH calibers. I was told CFC considers all the MH calibers actually S&W calibers, and because the one I was interested in had a barrel less than 106mm, it was prohibited. Also, I was told because there aren't any company records, CFC can't authenticate a MH as "antique". I hope UI can find an affordable Pocket Army sometime, but that little .38 was really very nice.
 
Starpuss - I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the new Merwin and Hulbert revolvers. They've been promising stuff for years now, and nothing has hit the shelves yet.

I fixed it...

CFC Does know ALL M&H evolvers are Antique by Age but some not by caliber like the 44 40 ones and the 38 cal ones now.
the 44 M&H and 44 Russian ones are still lettered.
I just bought two both 44 M&H caliber both have RCMP Letters.

You're right Dingus...ive had a number of large framed Merwins.

My baby is a rare transition model pocket army with the open top in...get this...double action. It uses the later third model frame and cylinder and left over second model barrel.

anyways, they shoot great. very well ballanced but you gotta watch the cylinder pin with those open top models. They've become weak and usually cracked over the years...worst is if they're bent - then you cant get the damn cylinder off.

I had a machine shop make me a couple of new cylinder pins out of 4340 steel or something like that. These ones will never break.

Best thing is that I can run 44MH, 44AM, through one cylinder and 44russ, 44spl with a second cylinder. takes 2 seconds to change them.

Honestly, I havent been shooting mine in a while. been pretty busy these days. I did manage to pick up an original 44MH heeled mold from Mike Venturino a year or so ago. (the one that he did his 44MH testing with). You would be amaized at the accuracy from that round. I was getting 3" groups offhand at about 20 yards out of the 3.5" barrel. Recoil is very mild...more like a 38 than a 44. Pretty well nothing for muzzle flip. I have only shot the 3.5" barrels...never did shoot the 7 inchers when I had them. I'm still keeping an eye open for a long barrel for mine. I could have just kept one of the ones I had over the years but It didn't seem right to pull apart a 2K gun just cause I wanted to keep the barrel.

I Have a Pocket army model with the top strap in 44 M&H skull crusher grip, about 3 days from getting it in my mail box its been thru ON Customs and on its way to me :).
Anyway the Pocket armys with that top strap are very rare in 44 M&H
I want to change it to 44 Russian 44 Sp but will wait and see what the cylinder chambers look like i only seen pics and it looks minty chambered.
I have another M&H open top one comeing to both have skull crusher grips.
ON Customs has been so unpredictable some guns are in and out in a Day and some are there for two weeks.
