Blackacres, thank you very much for the pictorial review. Your photos were just fine! That photo series really deserves it's own thread. Thanks again!
Since you seem to like HK's in 45acp, you might want to check out this link about Vicker's and Hackathorn's involvement in the development of the HK45 (take the space out of the http)...

You can hotlink it, it is not a gun dealer, so no restrictions apply.

The H&K Mk23 is a massive boat anchor. The muzzle flip is brutal for a .45 and the accuracy is less than stellar. I'd recommend pretty much any quality brand .45 over these things in a heartbeat. If however you are looking for a novelty piece to goof around with on the range on the odd occasion, it is an interesting, albeit grossly overpriced, addition to the collection.
Just my observations from owning one and putting about 800 rounds through it in the year/ year and a half that I had it.
The recoil was fairly tame, but the fact the majority of it's weight is sitting on top with a high bore axis, and cycling on firing meant it's flip is very noticeable. I've owned most everything out there, and I'd say it has one of the most noticeable/pronounced muzzle flip out of any .45. Just my humble observations.
As to the anchor comment, that had more to do with the physical size than combined weight/size. It is far too cumbersome for what it delivers. That DE doubly so.
It is however a worthy addition to a collection, and at the time of introduction, offered an interesting solution to the problem asked of H&K.
Beltfed, I have to say I am also quite surprised at your observations. I got fair bit of experience at shooting 45ACP, and HK Mark 23 feels like shooting 9mm, with just a little more push, muzzle flip was non issue with it.
It could be personal preference, or some kind of pistol malfunction?
I had no problem hitting bulls eye with Mark 23, and doing it repeatedly.
I am not bad with other guns as well, but this one makes it easier for me to hit targets accurately.
I would say it is more of a target gun, than action games gun.
Intended purpose was for Mark 23 to be service gun, and for that it might be a bit too cumbersome.
But as a range high precision instrument, I can find no better for me.
I know that you like Sigs better.
