I'm a member of the wapiti shooters club, But I can barely handle it there. $360 for me and my gf per year and her interest is a novelty at best, and the lack of anywhere to shoot my rifle that isn't behind a bench is killing me. Pistol shooting is okay but the distance and how you shoot depends on who's at the range. As whoever is there first seems to be the one who sets the distance. Rifle shooting is a joke 50 yards and behind a bench and wall. There is further distance stuff but thats not gonna help me as it's bench as well. I can't practice transitions I can't practice positions. I can't do anything that resembles practice? Sight in a rifle tops. I want to learn the appropriate skills for 3 gun so I can get into it next year, but have no way to it seems. Am I missing something? Are there are areas available for this type of practice near gp? Or different times? I've seen that peace river, fsj, dawson, valleyview all allow a much more free reign on how you shoot and train and some even have 3 gun practice weekly. (fsj) But all are 1-2 hours away. Any insight is appreciated. Would love to hear that wapiti range has things available that I have been unaware of. Thanks in advance.

Peace River is doing 3 gun practice nights as well this year. Wapiti has a defensive pistol group on Fridays, not sure if it's every one or every second one.

If you want to shoot in a manner not permitted at WSC, you will have to go to another range or stick with non-res guns in the bush.

Edit: We have a guy who drives over from GP for our practice nights, he's been out more than most of the locals. The first PR 3 gun match of the year is this Saturday. Come out and shoot. If you can follow the 4 safety rules and don't try to go faster than your skills allow, you can get through your first match.

Yes, defensive pistol is every second Friday at Wapiti. This Friday coming up (May 29) should be the defensive pistol night. Once in a while we through in some shotgun and carbine training. It is always a fun time. PM me and I can put you in contact with one of the organizers.

as one of the helpers in fsj i can totally back stevo up on this.....dont worry about getting trained or stuff, make sure your guns are sighted in and come out and enjoy... go at a safe speed and have fun, don't worry, be happy mon. we have helped plenty of newbies and everyone including us had to start somewhere.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll have to look into the pistol nights here in gp and maybe into making some trips to fsj or peace river. Much appreciated. Maybe I will have to just jump in and give it a go. Provided work doesn't interfere with that.
