any non res black rifles that won't break the bank?

I would suggest using the search function on this topic, trust me, it's been done.
There is no sks of black rifles, except an sks with a tapco stock.
Black rifles range from 800-3000$
Kel-Tec Su-16 being the cheapest, and I think swiss arms tops out iirc.

I recommend strongly the MR-1, if you handload you will enjoy the very good accuracy and easy maintenance, the MR-1 is the sleeper of NR, AR mag capability and is a lot of rifle for the money... JP.

For some reason it is extremely difficult for the website to set the default time range for the search at more than one week. Why I have no idea. It's idiotic.

Once you change the time setting in the advance search option it stays set as your personal preference, or one can also use the "Forum Search" that has work for majority of my inquiries. ;)

I had the same dilemma a while ago ...

A buddy of mine just bought a mini 14 and put it into a Sparta stock ... Looks really sharp and handles quite nicely! I didn't get to shoot it because someone forgot the key to the trigger lock. If you can find a mini on the EE for a good price + the price of the stock you might come in at around 1000$.

I was going to buy a mini 14 until I came across the MR1. Fit and finish is where the extra 500-1000$ goes, it's outstanding. I don't know a whole lot about gas powered AR / semi systems but from what I read the ARGo system is supposed to be pretty flawless.
