Kongsberg M59 in 7.62X51Nato. Presently in a 98k stock. The weird thing is it appears to have the proper front band and spring installed. Did they start off production using German stocks?

Serial # is 35XX Receiver, barrel, bolt, floorplate, triggerguard all match. 27" Kongsberg stamped heavy barrel. Receiver bnz 42, good shape.

At the very least I will need a handguard but would prefer a nice M59 stock set for this rifle. Worst case I visit the woodshop and make a handguard for it. I have not had any luck locating parts. Any help is appreciated.

Pictured next to an Israeli for comparison.

It's possible that is the stock the rifle was built on.

Many years back, International Firearms offered target rifles built on those stocks. Some were solid like yours and some were laminated.

The rifles they offered, were supposedly from Norway and Denmark and were offered in 6.5x55. They also came fitted with the same sights.

Looked very similar to yours. I still have one of the take off stocks for one of those rifles. I heard later, that a few were also available in 7.62x51 but weren't advertized as there weren't enough of them to print them up.

In you rifle there is the marking of the Kongsberg Rilfe Factory or maybe of the Schultz & Larsen Otterup? The real M/59 are marked M/59 over the receiver and the Norwegian cleaned away old german markings. The rifle is similar to a M/52 Danish Target Shooting Rifle made from K98 and Gew98 parts.

Ok so I joined a Norwegian gun site to hunt for a stock and they gave me some info on this rifle.

It is not an original Kongsberg but a private conversion. Guys could have their 98k's converted to M59 spec to compete and all the parts to do it could be purchased from Kongsberg. My barrel has the kongsberg symbol on it and it is serialized to the receiver. These would be built by gunsmiths in Norway.

One member there has a stock set for it so hopefully I am able to get it shipped over. Bearhunter, any chance your stock is like the one pictured in the link below?
Here is what an M59 looks like:

Nope, mine is a cut down, laminated K98 stock. I use it as a test bed when checking out K98 sporters. It isn't anywhere near that pretty or well made.

I'm trying to obtain this one my neighbour found this week at the show. It's a M59 F1. Apparently is was made for the Great Britain market in 1968. The stock is laminate, but has the grooves in the grip area. Bore is pristine. It came with a Parker Hale rear sight, just taken off for the photo, as there is a broken screw that needs work.
Bolt and stock number match.

Nice score Koldt!!

I'm about to take mine out shooting, we'll see if she still shoots well. Have M118 ammo and a Schweizer behind the trigger. Hope it goes well.

Well all my usual shooting areas up in the mountains were so snowed in even the 4X4 failed to make it through. Decided to pull off a trail, set up a target and just shoot off a snowbank to at least try the rifle.

I shot it back to back with my Swiss miss (PE90, a rifle I know shoots great) and this o'l Mauser shows potential. I think I will spend some money on it and get it a nice tight stock from Norway.

PE group is 3/4"

I haven't gotten it yet... I'm still trying to negotiate, but I'm having a hard time determining a reasonable price.. I'm always willing to pay a bit more for stuff I like thought, that's the problem...
