Any of you tried one of the used TradeEx shotties?

I was wondering if anyone out there has bought and shot any of the used shotties from TradeExCanada? I'm a big fan of break-action, double barrel shotguns, and they have quite a few at very reasonable prices.

The only potential problem is that I haven't heard of any of the brands that they're selling. Lanber, FEG, Zabala, Sarasqueta, Sarriugarte, Laurona, LIG, and more.

Any comments from you folks?

Victor Sarasqueta, Sarriugarte and Union Armera are all fine Basque manufacturers. The TradeEx site does seem to have low prices for these makers, but they also seem to be lower end boxlocks or non - ejector sidelocks. They do not appear to be minty examples either. For the price, it may be worth a gamble, but I wish I could see some of these guns in person.

I have bought several guns from them, and they are very conservative in their discriptions. All of my guns have been in better condition then they desribe.

I jusy recieved a Lanber o/u from them with selective auto ejectors, selecive single trigger, vent rib ....

They described it as very good+ to excellent, I would have called it new. I am very happy with this and all my purchases from them. HIGHLY RECOMENDED.

I notice that the chokes they have on the shotgun is a full over mod. Does anyone know if the chokes on shotguns metion (Lanber, FEG, Zabala, Sarasqueta, Sarriugarte, Laurona ect) are fix or removable?

I bought a Zabala from Anthony (Tradeex).
He e-mailed me all the pictures relevant to the condition of the shotgun.
I agree with the previous statement, that he is conservative in describing the merchandise. He personally checked it while on the phone with me and provided a very accurate "feel" of the shotgun.
When it arrived, I was impressed. All the blemishes zoomed in pictures were a lot smaller and my plans of refinishing the stock were postponed;)

The chokes on most are not removable, and I calculated the choke value.... the full one is extra full (same value as the turkey one), but the modified one is in all respects ... modified.

The shotgun I bought was hard to open, and in spite of some rust spots (mentioned in the description) it seemed new!!! I had the feel that it was not even broken in. I shot only about 5 boxes thru it, and it starts to loosen up a bit. Great feeling. The looks of it, with all the dents in the stock, was not on pair with the action which is awesome.

I know it is not a high end shotgun, but for me it is what I can afford. At these prices, it's hard to get even close to them in Canada. I would for sure like to afford to sport an new Ugartechea in 28ga, but the price (4599U$) is

I know the instinct of self preservation is inviting me to tell you ... <<No... don't buy them>> in the hope that I'll improve my financial status in short time and then I'll buy more for myself, but the truth is Anthony is a great dealer and I was very happy with both his products and his service!:D

Trade ex

I purchased a firearm from them and was also more than happy with the condition as I found it to be better than described.

I just received a Lanber o/u (full over mod. and double triggers) from them. The service was very good and delivery was quick. Also, the gun was well protected/packaged for shipping. I like the fit and finish of this shotgun, the wood has a nice grain to it and there are many engravings (florals). Metal and working parts are 90%+ the only "negative" is the many dings in the wood. For the low price I paid, I am pretty satisfied and I beleive I could resell this firearm for an extra 100$ without any problems. But I intend to keep this one and put it to good use :)

I just bought a Lanber o/u. Can't wait to get it and try her out :D

I'm going to be using it mostly for shooting clays with my buddies. Should I get the chokes opened up?

When I receive the gun I'll post pics :)

for those who own a tradex O/U in your opinion is there enough metal on the barrels to have it tapped for chokes? If someone could please post some measurements (barrel thicknesses) it will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I am very interested about hearing reports on these shotguns. I've always wanted a nice over/under 12 gauge, preferably with a single selectable trigger and ejectors for use on the trap range, but also in the field.

My question is: what are you NOT getting e.g. in a used $250 Lanber o/u compared to a $1000+ double like a Browning Citori. I'm not too concerned about not having screw-in chokes. Edit - also 2-3/4" chambers are fine. I can shoot the big stuff in my 870.

Thanks a bunch!

This is a mod and full choke double? People have their preferences but I wouldn't shoot trap with more open than mod, full on at least one barrel for doubles. For skeet, you definitely want to open them up.

I just shoot clays with my buddies, we're so bad we just keep track of who hits what :p

I was thinking to open the full to modified, and the mod to near cylinder, that way I can pick which one to use based on range.

Then again, I know next to nothing about shotguns or clays :D

Shotgun came in the mail today, very well packaged. It was as described :) He listed the bore as 'very good', they look like mirrors to me with what may be some slight pitting (or just some dust, I need to get a shotgun cleaning kit still).

Any of the imperfections seem to be from honest use, and if I am so inclined should clean up well. This is going to be a field gun though so I'm not very concerned.

Anyone have any suggestions for a recoil pad? The one on it is ill-fitting and old. Seems to be nailed to the buttstock.

My biggest problem right now is it is a pain to trigger lock - the trigger guard tapers towards the rear, and it has double triggers. Anyone have any suggestions? I can't use a cable lock unless it's a LONG cable lock.

All in all for $260 inclusive I'm happy :D

Oh and, does anyone know how to strip these things down? Or is it better if I just leave it all intact? I like to clean my guns and learn how they work before taking them out, but I don't want to start screwing around with it until I know someone can help me if I bugger it up ;)

Take your shotgun out and carefully pattern it. Let me know if it hits the same point of aim with both barrels at 40 yds. Nothing worse than a double with barrels not properly aligned!

depends what you want to accomplish. Skeet is more challenging with full choke. Top shooters prefer the challenge and precision ;)
