Any one have an opinion on Canuck pistols?

I reviewed my 1911 (9mm) in the Pistol Forum. Basically a good, well made gun but it has a few kinks. The worst is a very stiff mag release spring, which I (with small hands) have to shift my grip to use. I'm having mine replaced with an extended one, but it has to be fitted to the gun. I've only shot it twice but last time I drifted the sights in so that I'm getting decent groups. I'm looking forward to more practise with it and possibly using it for IDPA.

Thanks nugunner. I'll hold off on the 1911 for now. I did buy the Hi Power clone though for 10% off at SFRC. Maybe I should do a range report too.

I believe nugunner had multiple problems. Failure to feed, failure to eject, the magazine wouldn't feed unless you held in the mag release and the slide failed to lock open when empty. I wouldn't call that a "good, well made gun.." I would call that a raging lemon.

OP, I'm not sure where you stand on human rights and freedoms, but I for one don't support nations who's religious ignorance dictates ones life and treats women as possessions and preaches intolerance. Add in the low quality of their products and it's an easy choice to steer clear..

Here's the link to nugunner's quite thorough review.

I also have one of those Canuck 1911 9mm Stainless. Is it the equivalent of a higher priced firearm? Nope - the fit and finish isn't there, but it is acceptable given the price and that it was my first S/A pistol. My main beef with it is the trigger - which frankly sucks. All sorts of creep, and not a clean let-off. I haven't had any FTF's or FTE's since I got it when shooting decent factory ammo (I tend towards the Federal stuff when I buy factory), but the chamber is a tad on the tight side for tolerance, as I get the odd round that I've reloaded which doesn't feed right - and I can almost tell which ones that will happen to as I'm loading the mag - the brass is a different colour so it likely isn't as high a quality from something my son was using. I've separated those out though and use them up through my 9mm Just Right where they feed just fine.

Would I buy another, having owned this one. Well......likely not, I'd most probably go for a better pistol in a 1911 now that I know I like the configuration. Maybe a SIG Match Elite, about $450 more than the Canuck at new. Or if really feeling flush, a Les Garr - but that won't happen anytime soon.

But for somebody just getting into it, I think the Canuck would be OK as long as you weren't expecting competition/match quality.

O.N.G.

ps: yup, the recent events in Turkey with their President doing a power grab are disturbing, but (a) I bought mine well before that, and (b) their population seems to have agreed to let the guy become a dictator by their own choice.

Kidd X- it is sad and scary to see what's happening in Turkey. The World as I see it is broken and people like me are f**cked and won't make a difference, as much as I don't want to believe that. Tisas unlike MKE is not government owned and is a private company. I don't want to turn this into a political debate on this forum. Full range report soon.
