I don't shoot yotes, rabbits, squirrels, wolves or anything else when deer hunting. I figure its best to concentrate on the task at hand, but each to their own.

IMHO, an opportunity to take a predator out is the only reason I would disrupt my deer hunt.

I've never taken any either, and unless it's really really slow, I probably would let them pass, like I do grouse, and rabbits, unless I'm doing a push, and then they are toast.

I dont understand how, unless there are certain circumstances..Like a trophy, or its just not a good shot..that any good, consiensious hunter would let an opportunity slip by to take out a predator, that will be eating his grouse and rabbits and deer and moose calves Its not as if they are scarce or endangered..its just the opposite..and besides that,,a good yote makes for a special kind of trophy on its own..

Around here, if I was seeing lots of coyotes and wolves, and few deer, my opinion would be different, but instead I see lots of deer and very few predators, I'd have to say 500 deer and only one coyote. So, I'll save the predator hunting for another outing. I figure I'd probably jinx myself, taking a shot at a coyote while there are deer all around and I'm waiting for the big one to come out and show itself. I can understand your sentiment, and if the ratio of deer to predators was different, I'd feel different. But we are not seeing an explosion of predators out our way.

I always take any coyote I see. Usually, we are hunting in the foothills with the permission of one or more farmers. The farmers often tell us to shoot any coyotes we see. It isn't so much an offer to shoot as a command to shoot. I am more than happy to oblige. The farmer is happy, I am happy, and there are enough deer around that I don't have to worry about scaring one or two or twenty. In fact, the best shot I took last fall season was at a running coyote approximately 175 yrds with my 7mm. My bud took several shots with his Enfield, kept missing, and I then let one rip with the 7mm. We never found the dog's 4th leg....
