how does it shoot, accuracy, recoil, is it a fussy cartridge to load for, do u use it for competition. how is the barrel life, good as the 308?.... thanks in advance for any and all input on this subject.
I have two---both sporter style---one on TC action with .254 freebore & .292 NK...the other on a Rem action with .180 freebore & .291 NK. Both shoot about 1/2MOA (a little more or a little less on any given day). Would have to look back to see the loads for the Icon as I can't remember them offhand. I have tried only 120SMK's and 120 Ber Match in the .180 freebore Rem. 120SMK's did not shoot well (always an unexplained flyer..but 4 pretty decent). 120 Bergers are more consistent with 36.75 RE 15 seated @ +.007 off lands. Using the original Rem trigge,r so think things might get a bit better when I replace it. Rifles weigh about 7 1/2 lbs and recoil is very low. Hot little cartridge that operates at pretty high pressures.
38.2 grns Reloader 15 and 130 VLD Bergers.
41.0 grns H4350 and 130 VLD Bergers
37.4 grns Reloader 15 and 123 scenars.
This cartrige in my experience and throughout everything i have read loves to shoot around the 2880-2890 fp/s. Your barrel length will effect the above loads for velocity.
I was just talking to a gunsmith that had borescoped a 6.5 x 47 lapua rifle with 2000 rounds under its belt. The fire cracking was so minimal, it looked like a .308 rifle with 400 rounds through it. Different loads would change this however this cartridge shows favour to good barrel life.

thanks for the info.. im 95% sure that im going to build for that cartridge. i dont see it in many of the equiptment lists for 6000 or 1000, especially in the 300yrd matches... but on the other hand i dont have a custom action so accuracy on that level shouldnt concern me that much i guess. i plan on entering some competitions in kenora and winnipeg they are only 200 yrd competitions but the 6.5x 47 should be ok...ill try to find some flat based bullets..
As noted on the 6mmBR forum, this calibre was used to win a 600 metre BR match on the owners first shoot. There are constructive comments on that site and the best results I've seen are with N150 and 123 grain Lapua Scenars, but many other loads obtain top accuracy. We have data, if you care to email us at peterdobson@ns.sympatico.ca
I still do have the rifle and it still shoots as well as the day it was built. Mind you I only shoot it in formal competition out to 1000. Not often enough!
The reasoning behind the build was to see if the cost difference between using a blueprinted 700 Remington action and a custom action was justified by the end result {group size}.
I have built a couple of others, 6.5x47 Lapua and 6x47 Lapua. All using blueprinted Rem actions. The conclusion is that the difference in price far exceeds that of the group size difference.
That kind of group size difference in competition @ 1000 means little when winning groups are measured in inches. To date I haven't seen matches won or lost in the difference of a .100" @ 1000 yards.

Myself and Tango Kilo built with the same components with the same guy, with the same results. I have less than 200 rounds through the rifle (my Dad owns it now, but its sleeping over right now), and I have a few bullets to play with.
36grs RL15, CCI small rifle BR, and 130gr Bergers. I have targets in the .2's to .5's and nothing over with that load. From 35gr-37gr nothing over .75". I have had similar results with 123gr Scenars and 139gr Scenars.
I am looking forward to working out some 125gr Matrix's here too. Great cartridge, I plan on building one for the kids.
