Great subject for groundhog day!
I was half thinking of going to Ontario this summer for some fishing and beer drinking. Then I thought killing a few hogs might be fun. We don't have any on PEI so it would be a treat to pop a few. I have noticed there are quite a few around whenI was there a few years back.
I would likely be in the Ottawa area if I went, as I have family there.

What are the regs?
Is there a season?
Anyone want to take me?

Varmint sounds good. When is next season for Liberals?

PS. Haven't seen any hogs around my area... so I don't shoot them, but I have seen too much Liberals....

Just kidding.

When I was in Ottawa 2 years ago in May I saw dozens of them on the sides of the overpasses and on the shoulder os the roads, I assume there are some in the country as well.

Go get them ground hogs there laughing at you for not shooting them.

Years ago I lived in Ottawa and found some great Ground hog fields in the Cobden area, there was plenty. Most days we didn't have to sit very long before another would pop it's head up. Unfortunately I moved away from that area and not many poout this way.

Miss it huge!

nailed two last fall from my tree stand while deer hunting with a bow. They dig holes in the feilds and the cattle break their legs. Farmers want them shot, shoot away...

i grew up on a farm on the bruce pennisula....lots of hogs.
not sure about the area you plan on hunting in, but, i'm sure if you ask any of the local farmers they would gladly let you hunt.

just don't shoot any of their livestock....lol

good hunting

I'm a half hour outside city limits and we're crawling with em...You dont need to bring nothing but me, cause you can see someone commin for miles, just hand me the gun if we do..Some times are better than others though so let me know. The season matters cause you cant hunt through standing hay,and they also wont be out of their holes if its 100 degrees in the shade...I dont do it no more, lost interest cause shot so many, but I'd gladly take a fella out and rangefind for ya kuduboy@sympatico.ca
PS A few miles closer to the city than where I am you cant rifle shoot,so see'n em dont mean much

My Dad's farm is near Renfrew, I shoot about 10 a year with a scoped Marlin788 (22 Mag).

Both are correct, once the hay is taller than a 6 inches, you're not going to see much. Sunny mornings and late afternoons are the best.

Don't need a small game licence if it your own property...

Hey guys.
I live in southern Ontario. Chatham to be exact.
I shoot hogs every spring till the crops are too tall to see them.
My fater in law and my grand father have fields with ditches running along them. So I just walk along the ditches and find a nice spot to sit and wait.
I use a Savage .17hmr. I haven't had any that I have hit get away on me.
Bang Flop.
Its a great way to spend a couple hours on a nice day.

Plus your doing a farmer a favour.

I managed to pick off 20 to 30 for the last 4 years. Great way to enjoy a sunny evening. Sit under a shade tree watch over a big field and play sniper.
If you get the shot take it. So far I have used a 270 WCF, a 257 Roberts, a 225 Winchester and 2 different 243 WCF's. This year I plan to try my shotgun with a rifled bbl and slugs just to see what that will do to the little cridders.
