Any open sight shooters here?

I just got in to shooting with peep sights this winter. Talk about fun shooting tho! It's a good challenge !
Long range with good glass will always be king but still.... Love it!

I agree, while its cool to shoot nice round MOA groups with a scoped rifle, when you do it with irons you tend to puff up your chest and feel important for a while.

Yup! I have a mauser action in a nice walnut stock with a Lyman peep and a williams long ramp with bead front sight. I have shot some big game with it and love it's compact lightweight carry. It is very much like the old mauser sporters of years gone by. It would not be the same with a scope and will never wear one.

I like to shoot open sights once in a while as well...it changes things up...and remindes me that I am a slave to my scopes.

I like shooting my Lee-Enfield No4 Mark 2. This rifle is very accurate with my reloads.

I shoot iron sights (not open sights) in competition out to 1000 yards.

All of us TR/Palma shooters use iron sights out to 1,000 yards. My coach Bob Pitcairn and my buddy Mirko Teglasi are going to be shooting for Canada in a few months in Brisbane.

I shoot a lot of milsurps, so I use iron sights regularly. Even with my crappy eyes, I can shoot 1.5MOA with my Garand at 200yds. The feeling of accomplishment when you do well with iron sights is much greater than with a scope.

I use a peep and front globe on a 22 so not a big stretch to centrefire. I simply do love some time away from the glass. A good rear peep and front globe sight is remarkably scope like and scary accurate. Now irons at 1000yds, theres a challenge in itself.

Shot our Sierra 300 with the No1Mk111 and a Parker Hale peep last year and had a great time but could not get over how the target shrunk once you looked through the peep. I'm amazed by your 1000yd TR shooters and this year I will have to try one or thier rifles.

Nothing I own is scoped. I love iron sights. My NIB XR-100 and 7RM model 700 are still waiting for scopes...maybe this year. I still hunt with a lee enfield.
