Any opinions on Rem 700 sps tactical?

its just a 20" barreled 700 SPS-V with a Hogue stock. pretty much whatever has been said in these forums about the Remington SPS-V (ie: that its a good gun for the money with lots of potential down the road) would apply to this one. the main downside of the SPS line seems to be addressed: the pillar bedded Hogue stock looks like a nice improvement over the very low-end SPS synthetic stocks.
you cant really go wrong with a Remington SPS since whatever you dont like you can just swap for aftermarket or take-off parts that are so widely available.
but for a bush/carry gun i would rather get a 16.5" barreled .308 Ruger Compact or Frontier. when you consider that the Remington will still need decent mounts and rings, the Rugers are around the same price range. mine are at least MOA accurate with standard hunting ammo - i think a bit better than the average Ruger thanks to the short, stiff medium contour barrels.
the scout mount on the barrel rib is nice for bush work, but you can mount the scope at the back, and even remove the scout rib, if you want a more traditional mount. fit and finish is light years ahead on a Ruger M77 MKII compared to an SPS, and the Mauser-style controlled round feed is nice. aside from things like aftermarket triggers there are far less accessories available for a Ruger than a Remington 700, however -- but i havent found this to be much of a problem since i dont see much i need to change/improve on mine. im just looking for an older canoe-paddle synthetic stock to slap on my stainless one to make it a bit more weatherproof for canoe trips.

Frontier Firearms (*see banner above*) has a Howa Lightening in .308 on sale. IMO the Howa action (same as Weatherby Vanguard) is every bit as good if not actually better than the Rem700 plus it takes all Rem bases ect.

similar to that in a .204 and it is tad heavy but looks gorgeous and is very accurate.
