Any Plans for a .308 AR? MAJOR UPDATE MAY 8 2014

Nice to see the bar being set low:p

Yeah, the xcr is a relatively low bar, but it is on the market, and does work and fit the demographic to an extent. I am sure ATRS can beat it with the right vector if so inclined.

So having a goodly number of proprietary parts is not a problem?

I don't think proprietary parts are a problem, and some of them may be required. That said, it will increase dev costs, so use as much off the shelf as you can.

Frankly, if it works, I'd buy one and enough spare parts to last my offspring.

Guess you guys don't know about the AR10 ??

The discussion changed mid thread form ATRS AR-10, to:

or would anyone be willing to take a chance on buying something that should be non restricted, uses Magpul or DPMS style AR10 mags, an AR10 bolt/chargeing handle and most AR furniture and IS accurate?
Just testing the waters for input, I have a plan...........

Great idea and id be in to purchase one. Id love to help design one if you want some free help and/or testing. Im fairly fluent in solidworks, have a small 3d printer (ala reprap), a fullsize CNC RF45 Mill that will be running soon, and live in Alberta :)

I can provide some solidwork files for reference if you would like

I just bought an XCR for coyotes and love the idea of an accurate 308 to match. Price would be important. I spent 3500 on my xcr with taxes and accessories. so I would be willing to spend around the same for a .308 that was good to go out of the box.

SO would it have to be some sort of recognizable AR10 clone, or would anyone be willing to take a chance on buying something that should be non restricted, uses Magpul or DPMS style AR10 mags, an AR10 bolt/chargeing handle and most AR furniture and IS accurate?

IMO rifle should do away with the ar15 charging handle and go for a side charge (maybe with a paratrooper style fold away - Also allowance for ambi?). Charging handle should dual purpose as forward assist, as many do. Upper and lower receiver should function similar to AR, but not look like too close of a relative. Should operate similar to an AR as in most of the bolt design, but should be bufferless to allow for aftermarket folding stocks (a factory folding stock would lead to less chance of an unrestricted approval). Rifle should come with very very basic furniture (see point above) but be able to use AR pistol grip and allow for AR style quad rail. Rear stock could be basic, with the allowance for an AR buttstock adapter.

Holy Crap that's awesome! Interested? Hell yeah:rockOn: Finally something really worth giving up the left nut for. It is now on reserve for selling to the nut bank in order to gain the required funds for this if it becomes a reality. Make it happen, make it happen, make it happen. Interest in the XCR-M is now seriously downgraded for me.

Might be an idea to leave the folder as a preplaned "OPTION" and and introduce it after it has already been clasified as non restricted. Just so it doesn't look as "scary", better to be on the safe side. Very interested in this project.

Very interested.....

Even be more interesting if you could switch barrels/calibers .243/7mm-08/.260/.308/.358/.338 Fed. Maybe not all of them but at least the more popular ones.

Sounds awsome!

So far the plan is proprietary upper and lower that will use AR10 style mags, barrel extension, modified bolt but standard furniture (the plan is to use the Magpul PRS stock and some sort of either quad rail or the PRI carbon fiber for end) and gas system. Side charging similar to the XCR, non interchangeable 4 lb single stage match type trigger, essentially to deny the use of regular AR triggers. The trigger manufacture we are negotiating with is well known so worst case scenario parts will be available.
Stainless matchgrade barrel in assorted calibers, lengths and contours.

Still lots to do, but the plan is starting to take shape.
