Any pre-1899 Mosin-Nagant's ?

I'm curious about the earliest dates on the 91's , or the 91/30's , that still "show" early dates or markings on 'em.....

yes the French and US built some for the tzar since the Russia didn't have the industrial capacity to produce the M-91 in large number

Yup...the first Mosins made were contracted to Chatterault,..in France...production started in 1892- reciever/bbl shanks marked 1893 and 1894 if I remember correctly...until the Russians could establish production and produce the 1891 on it's own

A 1905 Sestoryetsk was the closest I can say I got to a pre 1899 though it was a re-used receiver on a Finnish Tikka 1942 build. Tough as nails, looked like it had been run over by a T34 but still grouped well.

I know it isn't pre 1899 but I do have a 1910/1911 dated Izhevsk that has been around the block quite a bit with enough history to write a book or two.
