any problems importing a 5rd mag?

i been thinking of importing a 5 rd mag (detacheable) for my sks, the reason is my son shoots standing up (sometimes, just for fun) with his knuckle on the forestock, the original mag has a slant so he is forced to hold further out.

im think of importing a 5 rd mag with a flush bottom to the forestock. i know its legal to import into canada and from what i read on this site its a rather grey area with customs , does anybody have personally experienced problems (or not) with customs when importing mags?

I have imported several magazines from the US ,including a couple for my SKS .
.Mostly stuff i got of ebay.Often is worth enquiring the seller if they ship to Canukistan some do even if listed for US only.
everything i obtained clearly passed through and was checked by customs because they stung me with import duty .

thanks for the reply ... i bot a few gun parts (not mag) from US auction and luckily never had it checked by customs , therefore never paid duty, perhaps... it was of low value.:dancingbanana:

did you ever order a plastic mag for your sks? did they work well? did they last long?

I got the plastic one from sksman, it worked flawelessly. i used it for hunting becuase it is light. The metal one,john soemthing... looks nice but have feeding issues. If you really like it you can fiddle around with bending the lips until it feeds nicely. No problem with importing.

IMHO nothing beats the original fixed mag on these rifles, and chargers.

no no, they hold 5 rounds....just that when the second to last round ejects, so does the fifth one - unfired :)

I have to get around to checking out why that happens. I am sure a bit of bending will fix it ;)
 
For some reason I could only get 4 rounds in these mags. :(

And yah I loved bouncing unfired cartridges off the fellow shooters to my right. :eek: :D

they may suck but they look nicer IMHO.... on the sksman site they do warn that filing may be nessesary. i like to buy one if anyone has one to sell.
