My springfield XD 40 likes to jam. Not more than about 500 rounds through it. I am using remington factory ammo, and it seems to jam on every 2nd clip or so. Any thoughts, or other problems you CGNrs have run into?

Does it jam if someone else shoots it? (limp wristing)

Do you have access to different mags? Mark the mags with tape and see if it can be narrowed down to one mag.

Wacky extractor?

Mine used to jam when I shot Wolf Lead rounds. They were very dirty and the whole gun would lock up tighter then a uh, yeah anyways. After a good cleaning it would be fine again.

It has never jammed with factory rounds. How often do you thoroughly clean it?

What kind of jams are you having, FTF, FTE? Have you tried different types of ammo? I have never had any jams (ever) with factory ammo in my XD40. I now, exclusively, shoot my own lead re-loads (180 gr. Wolf lead TC / Win primers / Unique powder) and I can't remember the last time it jammed. I usually try to clean it after each range session, usually about 250 rounds. Although, I have let it go a thousand rounds a couple of times between cleanings with no issues.

Try some different types of ammo, clean and check your mags...
Keep us posted.

XD40 jams? boy...
The only problem ever with my xd40 was stovepiping due to very mild reloads.
Im really interested to know what kind of jam is that.

Seeing as you have not described the "jam" (Eg does the round feed into "top" of the slide, or get caught in the feeding ramp).

if it gets stuck "above" the chamber, then most likely it's the mags.. the lips are starting to spread to far apart, and it's feeding at to high of an angle.

if it's too low, then it may be the follower.

also check your extractor to make sure it has not broken. (tooth at the end is still good)

jammin???

NO....

target loads?
cold day?
dirty gun or over lubed with wrong oil?

No offence but are a little shy of the gun?

My XD 9 barks a little in the hand. May cause a limp wrist.

I shoot with a tight mechanics glove in my right hand. And always with good ear muffs and saftey glasses.

Its not a problem with the shell being extracted, it is catching when trying to barrel the next shell. The casing is caught at an angle and does not enter the barrel.

you shooting reloads or factory?

It sounds as if your magazines are releasing the round to early, as if the lips have spread. have you played with them in the past? When I bought my 9 xd, they accidently shipped it with 40 mags, are your mags 40 or could they be 9? Both will work, but not as well as they should, and 9 in 40 mags puts you over capacity:rolleyes: . Look at the base plates and make sure they say 40. Have you cleaned your mags? I find the rem factory fairly dirty and enough of it blows down the inside of the mag well, could be slowing / inhibiting the spring force for the last round.

Hope some of this helps.

Could be an issue with the feed ramp, but that seems unlikley at first glance. It your extractor free to move and not carboned up, so it can accept the rim of the raising cartridge? Is the chamber clean on the pistol?

Has the pistol done this since new?

This is the problem. Had the same thing with my XD 40 when I first got some mags..

it's easy to confirm.. take 5-6 rounds, and load the mag.. then look at the angle that the round is sitting at in the mag.. (should be about 30-35 degrees) the angle of the round should be the exact same as the angle of the top of the lips, if it's more, then you need to squeeze the lips together, ever so slightly.
