Any PRS shooters coat their bullets with HBN or something similar?

CGNers:
I have a 6mm creed on the way and I was thinking about ways to extend barrel life. In doing a little Google research, there were some logical and more obvious options, but I also came across bullet coating. In the past "Moly" was used to coat bullets to reduce friction and extend throat/barrel life, but it had its problems, and the new version is HBN as it has fewer issues.
I realize this may be more of a reloading question, however, I'm not concerned with how this may apply for F class or bench rest, but wether it's applicable to PRS type shooters.
I haven't heard of others at matches coating bullets with HBN or anything else, but I wanted to know if any of you do this? Is it a pain to do? And does it ad much to barrel life?
I appreciate your input.

HBN will do nothing to save your troat.

I've run 115 Dtac coated since 2017 in 6x47 and 6 creed and all it ever done is help my consistency on cold bores. But cleaning regiment is alot more important.

Troat where as messed up as when I run dry bullets.

As far as I know no one out West who shoots PRS coats their bullets. Not much you can do to extend barrel life on a 6 creed save for running a lower/slower node. Just accept your barrel will be done between 1400-1800 rds and have another ready to spin on.

If you want your barrel to last a little longer think H4831SC. I am not sure why everyone gravitates to h4350, I guess because they read it on the internet, yes h4350 is good but, there are other powders that are just as good. I guess we we all look for the easy rout and try to save on load development time. I remember getting a new gun getting 3 or 4 new powders and a selection of bullets and doing multiple ladder tests the seeing what velocities I was getting. Any way I digress. With h4831sc you can get to 3100 fps with noncoated 115 DTAC fairly easily with a long throat.

Throat erosion is primarily caused by hot burning powder, not the bullet. Using a cooler-burning powder is your best bet to prolong barrel life. Even then, the 6x47/6 Creed are both hard on barrels. lots of hot gas going down a small bore. 6XC is better since it uses more, slower powder, and the 6BR family by using less powder.

Thank you for the feedback. That's good advice to ladder test with some slower powders as well. I'll do that.... And now I just know with even more certainty that I'll be replacing the barrel in due time.

6 XC is the same #### as the 6x47 and 6 creed. It's 50gr of case capacity. I had 3 barrels and nothing more special than the others around.

In fact 6 creed could use more of that slow powder but in the end its still messing up troats.

Troat erosion is caused by chemical, thermal and mechanical friction.

Don't worry about the 115 Dtac. The most potent node is right at 2980 fps and the new rebated boat tail will do more than coating the bullet.

I run HBN because my barrel was started that way but otherwise next barrel it will be naked 115.

As twosmokinspades mentioned run H4831SC. It's a bit easier on troat (espacially when tubb will release his new stuff soon).

I take the easy road cause I don't wanna use 200 rounds of barrel life for load dev, haha. That being said, my latest barrel is gonna use H4831SC. My understanding is that with a 110, it should be the optimal powder, maybe give better ES/SD as well. I'll figure that out when I get back form the land of Kangaroos...

I gave up on the 110 smk. Untunable and when you think they are good to go next day they shoot like crap.

Tested in a 6x47L Cadex and 6 creed custom. 115 dtacs just plain shoot better and easier.

I think I have like 198 bullets left if you want.

Thanks man but I still have enough (like 2k+) of them to burn out all the barrels I have on the go and I'm planning on trying the 115s in the new barrel as well. Not to mention I find the 110s are inconsistent from lot to lot so I only get them 1000 or so at a time.

Some day I'll actually learn how to post a picture. My partner was shooting her 6 creedmoor with h4831sc her velocity spread for five rounds was 5fps with an SD of 1.7 shot using a Mangneto Speed.
I dare you to start a fight with a Red Roo. :)

So slightly off topic, but you guys running 4831sc in the 6 Creed, how much longer does the barrel last than H4350? Did you burn one barrel and switch powders on the new barrel?

I'm shooting Berger 105 Hybrid, as Kevin probably knows.

That's the problem when you have your own lathe, you never wait that long, you just spin it off and re chamber it sooner than later. The last one I did was just south of 1800 rounds and over the life of the barrel I lost 100fps. It was a Krieger 7.5. I played with the 5r found it very finicky in the high twist 6mm
