Hi, I'm looking for a rangefinder to give as a gift for someone. Looking to spend around $400. I would prefer it be waterproof and simple to use. It will be used for moose hunting with a .270 or .308.
Thanks for any input you might have.

Normally I'd say to get a used Leica, but the gift thing might throw that idea off.
Lots of guys have pristine examples for sale due to upgrades, myself included. Gimme a holler if a 900 scan interests you.
I recently bought a 1200 ARC (Bushnell)
In your price range, small, light easy and quick to use. It has some nice features.
I haven't used it in the field yet so who knows but I'm thinking it should be OK.
If you can't find a 1200, I would not overlook the 800
I have a Leica 800 and I'm amazed at the performance. It will pick up easily objects including bushes beyond the 800 yd range. I use mine regularly to determine shooting distances to various spots in the area that I monitor. Having to check distances while you have a game in your sights is not the best condition to have.
And when it comes to quality of optics, its hard to beat Leica.
