I have gotten to try several guns this past week as I check out various clubs and the friendly people share their toys with the wide eyed newbie...Today I fired a sig 226r 9mm. I think I may have fallen in love...is there any reason not to make this my first handgun?

(I was back and forth on wether to make a .22 or 9mm my first gun but after shooting some of each I don't mind spending the extra ammo money and getting the one that was the most fun! I can always buy a .22 later)

I bought two recently. A P229 and a P239. Some people out there while claim that the quality is not what it used to be in Sigs... But honestly, my personal opinion is they are second to none and you can't go wrong!

And don't forget... Quester has a pretty decent deals where you can get a two in one combo... Basically a regular service Sig with a .22 conversion kit that goes with it!

Nope, a CPO P226 was my first gun I ever got. I wish I still had it. It had a short trigger on it and I put some night sights on it. WOW, what a sweet shooter.

I plan on getting another 226 or a 220 someday.

Something you should look at is the Classic P226 from Questar.

Comes with a .22LR topend and with a coupon and some extra cash you can get a new slide to make it shoot 9MM aswell.

Sweet deal IMO.

Yeah that's what I meant. He actually made sense of what I was TRYING to say haha...

Don't buy a Sig if you like the long/heavy/gritty trigger pull of Glocks and the like. Don't buy it if you want to practice malfunction clearance.

Other than that, I can't see any reason not to buy one.

My Sig 226R is my favourite handgun. I have heard some shooters complain that the double-stack grip is a bit big for them, but if it fits your hand well, there is no reason at all not to get one.

I have actually never heard anyone say anything bad about a Sig except for the .22 mosquito (jamming issues). The P226 seems to be as close to perfection as it gets.

Worth noting that the consensus is that newer builds have resolved most issues providing the shooter uses quality ammo.

DO NOT buy a Sig! It will lead to wanting another and another and another...(see where this is going). I bought my first handgun barely 2 months ago and it is a P226R in 9mm and now I want one in .357 and the .22 conversion and a Sig 1911. It's too late for me but you can still save yourself!

I can think of one short coming of Sig pistols - they are not ambidextrous. HK guns (say P2000) are more "true ambidextrous" guns.

Also Sig pistols are slightly more "snappy" than some HK guns (say USP) because of HK's special recoil spring designs.

But I LOVE my Sig P226. The grip feels so natrual in my hands. I found that when I close my eys and aim at something with my P226, it turns out to be right on target when I open my eyes and check. Amazing.

Excellent! Thanks for all the feedback. This much consensus must be a good thing. Time to fire up the debit card!

Oh boy, i never get stoppages with my sig mosquito with mini mags. Its the best .22 i have...the rest of them are o.k, but nothing really that great to talk about. Guys that buy cheap bricks of .22 ammo and expect amazing results are out to lunch.

Sig Sauer = Crack

I've already got two... About to order a third. That'll be three in three months. :runaway:

reminds me of chris rocks line in new jack city.........

but yes once you get one. you will want another . infact its the only pistol i can think of that i want more of the exact same model and caliber ..

good luck.
