Any reason not to get into shooting handguns over Black rifles, bolt, shotgun, ect?

I have been shooting semi auto center rife, shotguns and surplus since I got my PAL and RPAL. I have started to lean towards getting a handgun in hopes it will be easyer to clean and funner to shoot at a range that is not snowed in like a backwoods range is in the winter. I have a range membership, money saved and my RPAL.

Any reason not to pick up a cheaper 1911 in .45 acp and one in 9mm and start shooting for the winter?

Yes... the reason being you will spend too much money on a new discipline and your wife will ride you like a rented mule for doing so..unless you get her involved also..ovrec:bigHug:

I've shot everything except CQB and three gun (which I eventually will).

For me, nothing has been more fun than action handgun shooting (IPSC specifically).

No reason they should be mutually exclusive - pick up a handgun and enjoy all forms of shooting as conditions permit :)

I don't find it to be more fun than any other kind of shooting but I enjoy it every bit as much as the other shooting activities. Try it you'll like it but not because cleaning handguns is any easier than a log rifle or smooth bore.

I'd suggest skipping "cheap" anything and getting one good gun instead of two. 9mm to start is a great idea.

I shoot rifles 90% of the time, shotguns 9%, but I can't scratch that last 1% itch with a rifle or shotgun.

If you have an RPAL you should have at least one handgun. I vote 9mm to keep ammo cost down, unless you reload. I'd spend a few more bucks on something like a German P226, CZ 75 of some sort, PPQ Navy, etc... if you're into the 1911 platform there are so many options it'll make your head spin...

I always recommend people to stay away from 'cheaper' firearms in general (made in China ,etc) unless they are handy and like to fix/tinker with them on a regular basis...

And if you have a long range for handguns it's a ton of fun to try to ring steel with a .22 at distance, like 100 yards. A Ruger MKII gets my vote for this , but Buckmark is really good too.

No reason not to get some handguns, it's fun to switch back and foreth. Shoot the rifle for a bit and switch it up with the pistol, then go back to the rifle. Keeps it fun, breaks it up a bit.

Shooting a handgun - any type - will make you a better rifle shooter, especially if you shoot iron sighted rifles. This is because you'll shoot higher volumes and handguns are more of a challenge to shoot accurately.

When I get back from the range after a good precision rifle session, I tell myself that I am more of a rifle guy. But when I get back from shooting handguns, I am really happy and had a ball. No reason not to enjoy both.

I really love both disciplines...nothing sweeter than a tight group at 300yds( except at 500yds ) but I found I kept my ar for the amusement of others, rarely shot it myself..was a fun toy for introducing others to the sport....handguns however are addictive, and soooooooooo much fun with reactive targets...still trying to get a respectable group on "clobasaurus" challenge......4-5" isnt good enough in this company...
Enjoy whatever route you go..

Personally I am a handgun guy. There is more of a challenge. Black rifles at short to intermediate ranges are just too easy. Having said that I would rather have a black rifle as a combat weapon for exactly the same reason, it is easy to shoot reasonably well.
