Any reason to run a rear sight so far forward?

So you buy your own equipment now? 🙄
Yes. They can't replace old stuff or not willing to buy new stuff fast enough, but people are suffering.

So a a lower level they have to let people spend their own money to solve the immediate problem.

no, it is not fair. People shouldn't spend hundred of dollars to be functional, these should be at the very least tax deductible like trade people new tools 1000 dollars annually.

And they wonder why they have a “retention” & “recruitment” problem.

Retired CDS Lawson, a fighter pilot himself said they only have about 60 fighter pilots in the CF.
Now the GOV wants F35’s, Gripens, & the F18’s. LOL. If that goes ahead most of those planes will sit for yrs without pilots to fly them 🙄

Ironic, for yrs they can’t buy a platform, now they want 3, talk about utter incompetence.

Better than the issued 4 mag vest, but get issued 10 mags overseas. Some of that issue could been resolved by elastic sides to expand the 4 to 8.

But overseas. I had 1 mag in the gun, 1 in a redi mag. 4 in my vest, then quad mag HSGI hip pouch.

They have retention issues due to low training and being woke.

I sold a Ruger bolt action scout model, I think it was with the rear sight mount way up on the barrel.
never really bothered me.
Why the sight so high? look at the line of the stock , been like for what? 60 yrs.

The CDS “crying” on TV must be the “woke” part, LOL 🙄
Woke as in being PC. You hurt my feelings. You cannot do that. Talked to a COs that said they cannot even discipline, many talk back.

I know back in 2012 ish, my buddy got written up and had to do a public apology because told a slacking worker to do their job.

The "next" generation of "war fighters" of this country is doomed, I'm guessing the army will soon be made up of people that can't make it the civilian world, or just an army of PR's and refugees, LOL,

Always was a thing. Remember when we transitioned from OD to Cadpat. There was mix match going on.

Overseas, some didn't have Cadpat AR shoulder pads for the vests, so had cadpat TW.
You are not wrong! Lol I got out 2 years ago now. I was super lucky to get the "artic Digicam" whites. Everyone else stuck with yellowed bed sheets ! LOL

Because it is not shot like a hunting or precision rifle. The guy in the picture demonstrated the proper technique of shooting this type of rifle.

hunting rifle has a drop in the stock so that when you shoulder it the eye lines up with the top of the rifle. the ar15 has the recoil buffer going straight back so the stock has no drop to it. this means the sights, optic, etc. have to be higher.

The backup sight is put there because it is the only space on the rail it will fit after mounting a C79 Elcan.

Most troops are not trained or even given opportunity to zero those sights, and it likely doesn't occur to them at all that the rear aperture should be re positioned to the rear when the elcan is removed. That's literally all there is to it. But at CQB distances and with a simunition upper (maybe?) it doesn't make much difference anyway.

Taller sights alow better field of vision and increases the point-blank range.

When we played with simunition.. We didn't even have rear sight. Just empty flat top with the FSB.
