anyone have any ideas for a .280 rem for me to buy. Sako doesn't chamber that caliber anymore so im looking for something in around the 1500 dollar range....

Preferably nothing with synthetic stock...

Not sure of any manufacturers on the upper end with a .280, just Ruger and Rem 700 SE. Although for $1500 you could buy a used Sako for around $700 and rebarrel to .280 for less than $800

or...you could buy a new Kimber in the long action and rebarrel that,...while getting rid of the goofy looking double stepped barrel......or as someone else suggested....buy a nice Sako L61R, AIII or AV in a .473" bolt face cartridge and rebarrel it....there was a Sako in 280 in the EE forum a while back....

Magnum Research offers a .280 in their moutain eagle rifles. Though they're at $2300 :( and I don't know how available they are. I don't even know if they're any good! It's supposed to be a Sako action and a HS stock together with their own graphite barrel.

OOps I missed the part about the synthetic stock, sorry!

Cooper makes a 280 Rem (model 52) ...sporter weight / clip ... guaranteed to group 1/2" @ 100 yds. You will have to wait a long time, but you will get an excellent firearm.

Here's another thought, how about the Sako 85 in 7x64? It's a cartridge so nearly identical that you can use the same load data. Really good ammo is available if you look a bit. If you really must have a .280, just run a reamer into the 7x64 chamber and open it up the extra .004" in base diameter.

Consider the elements you want in your rifle, consider your budget, and see if there is a factory rifle that meets both requirements. Now look into the cost of a custom rifle following the same considerations. You might be pleasantly surprised to find that you could have a custom or a semi custom rifle fall within your budget, especially if you can get a doner rifle with the action you want at a bargin price.

You should have no problem finding a used Sako in a 280 without much searching.I have seen quite a few at gun shows.

I would buy a good used Rem 700 or Win. 70 and have it rebarrelled.

Then mount a leupold 2.5-8 Var x III on it.

Damn, now I think I need one of those. :)
