a friend and I have caught the turkey bug, and we're wondering where some decent spots are to hunt Wild Turkey (besides the LCBO). if anyone knows of any decent spots, or can recommend specific WMU's in Southern Ontario, would you mind PM'ing me...

very much apprecaited!

74a wmu.
Was hunting deer there last fall and counted over 100 in a single field surrounding my blind just before dark. They all roosted just behind me making an awefull noise that sunk my deer hunt!
They will likely scatter come spring all over the place!

I'm looking out my office window into 2 corn fields right now... 3 flocks, ~100 birds each. ;)

Mine! All Mine!

Wish we could rifle shoot them, I'd setup in the window at lunch.

... i drive north from ajax and i see at least 300 of em with in a 15min drive. there all over the place, i just get out and ask farmers if i can shoot on their property come season. 90% of the time they say go ahead, usally they want some turkey dinner too of course.

In the corn fields? In those corners where machinery can't pick up everything and leaves stakes knee high?

That's the kind.. Except the entire field is knee-high. They just turn it over in the spring. It's a couple hundred acres of Pungi-goodness. The Viet Cong would be proud.

You might want to try going for a nice Sunday drive or two;). There's likely plenty of turkeys within a half hr drive of the city. Once you see a flock and now is a good time of year to see birds in the fields then knock on some doors in that area. Don't knock on those doors on Sunday though since most rural people are rural people because they don't like to be bothered much especially by a complete stranger on a Sunday. Lots of farners are starting to wonder whose idea this turkey thing was when they see just how much corn a flock of 50 turkeys can eat along that high knoll with the big tall pine trees:D
Don't come off like Rambo and you just might get yourself a property or two. Another idea is to get yourself a guided hunt. There are a few guys offering guide services out there now and I believe Adrian is one of them. Get a bird under your belt then head out and try it on your own after seeing how it's done. Oh! Practice sitting very still

awesome guys. all of this is very much appreciated.

hopefully a lot of people see this and get out there this spring. the more the merrier - we need to grow our community, so our voices will continue to be heard.

Don't forget there are some York Region forests you can hunt turkey in as well..The pfferlaw tract (by sutton/keswick) you can hunt in, and I think there is a second one there as well.. you have to do some digging (on the net) to get a contact name to verify the second one though..

Also.. Don't forget that you need to now be a member of the OFAH to hunt the Simcoe forests..
