Any regrets this year?

Only regret not getting out more to hunt. This year only a six day rifle hunt in ON and got skunked along with most in the area. Lost some good bow hunting spots and didn't put in the work to replace them.

I had a great hunting season this year. I have no regrets, however I was a bit disappointed in myself, that I over estimated the buck that I shot. Where I hunt for whitetails I Generally let these bucks pass and let them grow for another year. My old eyes are not what they use to be, I guess.

Not really. I got invited in my first moose hunt and my buddies (who invited me) filled the tags, so I would be lying if I claimed that I was not a bit disappointed not to get to be the shooter. But I was VERY happy to get to participate and to go home with a beautiful moose quarter! Because of having that moose in the freezer I trophy hunted deer for the first time (.I don't normally pass up legal deer - prefer to kill it and get back to bird hunting). I flubbed up my frist chance ever at a trophy buck, a nice 10 point who appeared out of nowhere one windy night in October. I got greedy and took a difficult shot with the bow. I appear to have missed him cleanly, but I regret having let my desire to kill him get the better of my judgement about what was a certain shot. I ended up eating tag soup, in part because I put a lot of time into pheasant hunting, and did very well at that. I regret not getting out mor for ducks (I'm between dogs right now) so I,m going to fix that in about three hours when I got out to hunt the low tide on the Bay of Fundy and try not to freeze my nuts off!
Happy New Year to all. Focus on your successes and experiences from 2014 as motivation to look forward to 2015, and use your regrets and failures as the building blocks of a solid plan to make 2015 better!
Dave

That would be considered a large buck here in southern Ontario. I would not have a problem with him at all.

This was my first year as a gun owner and a hunter. I wish I had gotten out more, even for small game, or waterfowl.
I hope to find someone who's willing to guide or coach me for next season. It's tough trying to learn all by yourself.

This season was both bad & good for me. The down side:(, I wasn't successful in getting a draw for my favorite Mr. Moose, and didn't get out for Island Blacktail Deer. The up side, I did get to go on my long awaited and successful retirement gift,:d an Antelope hunt on draw with my "guides and hunting partners", my Daughter & SIL.
I've posted this result on another thread previously,;) but here goes again as it's quite likely the 1st and last Antelope hunt on draw in AB for me.

Johnn, Here is my son's buck that he shot this year near the town of Walsh, Alberta. We made a walk, stalk and the final 30 yards my son crawled. At 353 paces, shooting a 85 grain Nosler partition from a Mark V, 240 Wby............he definitely had no regrets.

:)Beauty. I think that this years Antelope hunt will go down as my favorite or the most memorable, non Moose hunts of my life time. Definately something different for me.
Oh, my Schultz & Larsen in 7x61 S&H using my 140gr Barnes TTSX handloads 'got the call' to draw blood. My Daughter & SIL were using 300 WSM's and;) my handloads with 180gr Barnes TSX
Antelope are a very attractive animal, not bad table fare and now I'm waiting for the final step. The European mount of mine to place on the wall in my den.
All the best of the New Year to you and may the enjoyment of your next years hunts surpass what you've experienced this years.:)

Thanks Johnn! Talking about big old rubber lips, I have a priority 11 at this time for bull moose. I haven't decided which zone to apply. Of course I'm looking for a 60 incher, or something very close to it. I also have a priority 10 for bull elk, however; I'm going to wait and see what the government is going to do in the future regarding the Suffield Military Base........big bulls there! For both hunts I will be using the Mark V, 300 Wby.

I regret not taking the wife out as much as she wanted. Never felt bad about finning the freezer by my self until this year.
This spring my goal is to put her on a nice black bear. Come hell or high water.

Pm on the way as we speak. Hope it's not a repeat:redface:.

Sigh...just got in from the last bow hunt of the season Dec. 31. Tag soup for me this year. Eastern Ontario sucks! Haven't actually seen a buck in 2 years around here.

MY only regret is that when I left Alberta I had many points for a mule buck and antelope and the last draw I got for bull moose I wasn't able to even go hunting that year so will never get to shoot a moose in my life time. I could never go hunting for moose here in Quebec as you have to actually know 3 other people that hunt in order to do so.

Why is that?
