Any regulations against giving reloaded ammo to a friend??

To quote Ed Burlew, on the topic of reloading and Canadian law, " And you cannot resell or give away these (personally reloaded)* cartridges. If you intend to, you need a license and more restrictions must be met. If you do not follow this you will be liable to be charged with unsafe storage under the Criminal Code." See http://www.cdnshootingsports.org/legal_info_for_reloaders.html

There has been some good advise on this thread so far, thanks for the input.

This Ed Burlew article is what initially started my curiosity with the rules behind reloading and the idea of "giving away" or making ammo for someone else's rifle. Personally, I dont see how unsafe storage regs would apply here. Of course liability is always a factor with 95% of what we do nowadays, thats going to be a given. Thus, it is essential to be careful with reloading especially if your not the one shooting the ammo.

From what im reading here the general consensus is that there are no reg's to back up what Ed Burlew is saying, and that reloading ammo can be done for any rifle (yours or other) so long as the canadian explosives act/firearms act is followed.

Since the Firearms Act does not address re-loading, I cannot imagine it being relevant except for not providing ammunition to individuals not in possession of a valid (R)/PAL. Funny, you can be in possession of ammo without a licence, but you can't acquire any. The Explosives Act must be the basis for any restriction about reloading for other than own use. I was not aware that it covered non-commercial, as in for not for gain, (as in not for bottle of whiskey) purposes, but I am ready to be informed.

Methinks sometimes lawyers get a bit too smart for their clients' good, as when they advise based on blue sky interpretations, when there is no case law, and the written law is silent. Lawyers sometimes advice "on the side of caution" at the expense of liberty, or just at the expense of doing what is completely legal. Like I said, show me the law.

I was looking for a gunsmith and happened upon a guy in the Montreal area that makes up hand loads for people, you tell him what you want and he'll do it. Never used him, I just buy a couple of boxes of good quality production ammo sight in and hunt. I'm only looking for moa groups and I don't shoot enough to invest in all the equipment to reload.
