I just got a Ruger Mark I wooden target grips in VG condition. My son has got to know a few American xvets that sware by the old Rugers. They knew the Ruger's inside out. They also said that the American military used the Ruger's for training. It appears there is quite the following. I am looking forward to taking it out on the range. It was not my first choice until I did some research.

The classic Ruger MkI is a fine pistol.

The new Mk IV's are pretty much the same if you go for the same model (Standard). The real difference is the controls i.e, mag release, slide stop, safety. IMHO they have kept them and there quality the same, and only improved upon the magic design. Now the new Lite models, Tactical, and 22/45 are a different story.

If I could find a like new Ruger MkI standard or target I wiuld grab it.

I love the standard with the short, light profile barrel.

Kinda reminds me of a Luger.

NAA.

Mark II Target doesn't count? Far and away my most accurate pistol. Loading the magazines can become crippling without use of the off market plastic widget to draw down the followers, surely true of the MK I as well.

Might want to find an aftermarket mag release. Otherwise they are a fabulous gun.

Everyone should have some sort of a user friendly .22lr for
trigger practice, teaching newbies, loaner etc.

I have the 5.5" bull barrel on my Mk.1- it is by far the most accurate pistol I own.

Put up a target at 50 yds or meters and prepare to be amazed!

Our LGS had a late 50s vintage Standard with its box/papers for sale about 6 weeks back. It had sat on the shelf for a couple months prior and was only priced at $250!! I couldnt believe it stayed around that long. Heavy sigh..

Can't wait to take it to the range and see how accurate it is. Disassembly is suppose to be challenging first few times.

Taking them apart is no big deal. Getting the spring linkages and bits in the right position when putting it back together is the tricky bit.
There's no shortage of videos and guides and I will freely admit that I still almost always refer to one when I have mine apart.

Always loved the looks of these pistols. I haven't bought one yet but I certainly plan to add one to the collection one of these days. Most likely one of the target models with adjustable rear sight and long barrel, they look awesome and everyone says they are super accurate.

Yeah that would have been hard to pass on! Definitely would own one already if that was the going rate but you can hardly find a Norinco woodsman clone for that these days...

I just use the second mag to push it down.:)
