Would like to get some opinions on the Savage 93R17 BRJ rifle, hopefully from actual owners. Would also like to know who carries it in Canada (found it at Cabela's for $439.99).
I'm having a hard time trying to convince myself to spend this much on a rimfire rifle, when I could go buy a centerfire rifle for the same cost .

I kinda have one. It has the thumbhole stock in the same colour laminate. I purchased it new (I think it is a JTV) and have only seen them in a select few places. Now that I am a bit older and wiser (and discovered the internet) I have discovered it just has a Boyd's stock on it. You could buy a FV that has an MSRP of 300 (you can probably get it cheaper) and throw the same stock on for another probably 100. The only difference is that it won't have a fluted barrel.

I can't find the replacement stocks for the 93r17's on Boyd's website. Maybe they don't make them anymore....

I have a 93R17. It is a stainless bull barrel on a black synthetic stock, I think one of the cheaper models. I got it at Bass Pro for around $360ish. The pros, Cheaper to shoot than a centre fire, light ish in weight although the barrel is pretty beefy, trigger is ok (I have mine set as light as it will go) Very accurate right out of the box (one hole at 50yds with 3 shot groups from a bench. Cons, More expensive to shoot than a 22, Very hard to find a stock for (had a crack in mine and was lucky to find one on EE), I occasionally found it tough to find ammo (but I think that is getting easier.

I really like the Rifle, it is one of my favorite gopher getters. I also have the mentality that, if I buy a rimfire I am going to shoot thousands of rounds vs. a centre fire in which I will only shoot hundreds of rounds. Therefore I am more willing to spend money on the Rimfire that I will definitely use more. Sometimes I make excuses to myself just to justify the purchase of a new toy (I just bought a 10/22 for $800 LOL!)

Thanks for all the replies so far, gives me lots to think about:D. I think I'm goin to give the new Marlin XT's a close look before making a decision. I definately like the look of a fluted bull barrel and laminate stock:ar15:

I have the 22 WMR one and paired with a Leupold 3x9 it is the most accurate firearm I own out of 12. It's a beautiful gun and worth the money

Go on boyds website, they have the tacticool, and if you go to the limited quantities you will see the btv stock and the brj stocks for cheap.

With that said, the BRJ is SUPER ###y and accurate, no more accurate than any other wood/laminate savages, but stainless and spiral fluted...mmmmm!!!

I have a BRJ. The stock is very comfy. Its a ton of fun to shoot. Normaly I only stop shooting when I run out of ammo.

Mine wont shoot any one hole groups at 50 yards. But normaly not much bigger then a 1/4" at 50. Alittle under an inch at 100 yards, about 4" at 300 yards.

Mine has a Vortex Viper 3-9x40 scope.

Over all I have to say that it might be my favorite gun to shoot.

Hope this helps.

Man, that is a beautiful rifle. Mine is a stainless 93R17 with the Jac thumbhole stock. I called Savage about it, and they said it was a special edition for some store in the States--someone brought it into Canada....
