Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what i have here. I know it's made by Savage, not sure whether it's an 1899 or a 99. It's chambered in 303 Savage and has a 20 inch barrel. I looked up the serial number online, one database says it was made in 1907 and another says it was made in 1905.

I'd really like to know which variant this is and how much it's worth.

I have looked @ your pictures & compared what I see in the 99 Savage BOOK by Murray . I collect & hunt with 99's.
What I see is : Model 1899 - H - Featherweight , with an aftermarket stock set , receiver
drilled & tapped for a scope after the factory. Also well used .

I put this into a low priced hunting tool . It may do the job well , if bore is good , but I would price this
in the $225. to $275. range. With luck some may pay a little more ?

They were all 1899's just had the number shortened. Same as a Winchester is a 1894 but they say 94. Question is did the stock come that way originally or was it redone or changed to another newer stock. Was also tapped later on in it's life.

The white line spacer looks out of place on a rifle produced early in the 20th Century, but the cut checkering is nice, and the butt plate appears to be rubber which is correct for the 99H.

Wow, it's a frankengun.

Hard to tell what it once was from the pics, some of the pointers to a model aren't clear. Is the front sight on a thin ramp or is it dovetailed into the barrel? In 303 it would have never been D&T'd so there's another downfall. The checkering although not bad for an amateur is homemade, not factory. Even the side pads don't look factory which leads me to believe it was an 1899H that someone wanted pads so they tweeked them a hair. Yes the H did come with a hard rubber buttplate but nothing like that one. It was more curved.

It is what it is, the $225-$250 price was spot on.
