Any Short Barrelled Bolt Rifles i.e. 12-14''??

These carbines are about as short as I would want to go.

Nice. However I always feel the big manufacturers miss the boat not producing something with a 14 inch barrel. In any traditional pistol caliber or 30-30 especially. Then you get the same juice as Thompson-Contender handloads.

There are the 16" Winchester Trappers. Not quite 14" but close. I've got one in 45 Colt and it is very compact and nice to carry, although I rarely hunt with it.

Holt what’s the bottom rifle and are sights factory or added

It is a factory M77 Mark II .358 Win RSI in an RL stock... They tried a 25 piece run and then scrapped the project as the RSI forestock did not hold up to the .358 barrel O.D. I basically sought to mimic the tang safety .358 carbine, but with the 3-position safety.

"To come in under $400 you basically need a free rifle to start with a super cheap barrel blank and a gunsmith who charges next to nothing to put it all together."

I have a salvaged Remington 600 action, XP100 take-off barrels in .221FB and 7mmBR, and do my own gunsmithing.
All I would need is a good stock - and that would eat up a lot of the $400.
