I'm looking for a shotgun (or two), specifically 12 GA pump or semi. I was wondering if you could kindly point out some great deals out there (from dealers) that you might have seen. I ask because I don't want to overlook a great deal (I heard that Hatsan shotguns were on sale for half the price at Easter and I wasn't aware of it until too late).

Just to clarify, I'm not looking for advice on which shotgun is good bang for the buck. I'm looking for deals where shotgun X normally sells for $800 and this particular dealer has it for $500-600, or this short cheapo shotgun Y is normally $300 and now on sale for $150-200. You get the idea.

Thanks for your help.

To clarify, are you looking for something in the 18.5" size for "tactical" or "defense" or are you looking for something more of the sporting length?

Just a few I've seen:

Canada Ammo has Fabram 18.5" Shotgun on sale for 30% off
Canada Ammo also has Girsan 18.5" Tactical Shotgun on sale for 15% off
SFRC has the Remington 870 with 18.5" Barrel on sale for 20% off

Those are just 3 deals I've seen just today

I'm kind of looking for both with three main options:

1. Cheapo short shotgun (8.5"--14") for wilderness defense + decent but affordable 26"-30" sporting shotgun.

2. Combo package like the SXP field and camp. (Although 18" barrels are not as portable as some others available on the market.)

3. A shotgun with lots of accessories, like a 870 express or a used wingmaster + a 12.5" Dominion arm barrel for the defense side of things.

Thank you for your reply.

870's are versatile.Get the Express for 320.00 at SFRC,get on the preorder list for a factory Remington Express 14" barrel at S&J hardware(+1 extension, spring, and follower included) 200.00.
Then look for a sporting barrel with screw in chokes.

CanadaAmmo just put on the Dominion Arms Outlaw (12" double barrel) for $199 until tomorrow only... I already have one, but at that price I'm almost considering another!

It's tempting. Would it be good enough for wilderness defense, to be carried in a backpack? My only concerns are:

1. It's limited to two rounds.

2. Once in the woods, can I load it up and safely carry it in my backpack without it going off. In the case of a traditional pump action, I can load the magazine and not put one in the chamber. Plus add the safety on. With those two safety measures in place I'm confident a pump action wouldn't go off accidentally.

I can tell you from personal experience it is heavier than you'd imagine for something this size. As far as safety, they are fired by exposed hammers. It would take some really weird shifting to #### the hammer to the fully back position then fire in your pack. Not impossible, just HIGHLY unlikely

Personally If it is loaded it is in my hands, If I put it down or store it in a pack it is unloaded. If you have time to retrieve it from a backpack you have another second to crack open the action and load a round.

Sounds like you would do well with an 870 platform and multiple barrels.

Corwin-Arms sold out the first shipment of these really fast, and is on his second shipment now.. If you ask around, I'm sure you can find someone who has one, and they'll be able to tell you what they think of it:

Personally, for a compact/tough all around bush gun, I'm sticking with my short Grizzly pump. Not sure if anyone has them at the moment, but mine is a tank and been really happy with it so far. The big downside is that it's a lot heavier than you would expect it to be.

Nice looking 12.5" you got there. The fact it's resting on two cowboy hats only adds to the presentation!

Just don't let any of my family know about that pick. It'd cause some serious issues if they found out I rested a cowboy hat brim side down. Not as bad as setting it on a bed, but close.
