Any SKS deals for Black Friday out there ???

Picked up an advertised SKS-M, turned out the sellers was confused as it was actually a SKS-D. This was fine and turned out to be possibly the cheapest SKS-D on ####### or EE, good deal.

This looks like a Kodiak-KD

you cant confuse the D from M bcos on the left side of the receiver says the model. what does it say?

going by the features, its not a D nor M bcos D and M has bayo lug and ak style mag catch, yours doesnt.

yours look like MC-5D bcos of the lack of bayo lug and ak mag catch but its the wrong stock. it should be a monte carlo stock with no bayo cut.

so at the end, very confusing as to what you got.

BTW: measure the barrel length. it looks like a restricted.

its not SKS-KD bcos it has chinese carrier.

Thanks.

At least it has the magwell insert.

Picture could be deceiving as to barrel length but I agree with your assessement.

Maybe a FA Frankenstein? I'll buy it. Laugh2

Yes, you're right. MC-5D, short barrel and it's a Chinese receiver. Nice rifles.

Best deals for SKS is usually the EE...I mean, it's an SKS = low factor of getting a lemon. But $450 retail is fair these days..but then you have Tax & Shipping, that's if you want a Chinese. Russians are minimum $100++ more.

I remember these at Gun Shows 25 years ago for 150..maybe cheaper. They aren't 'Restricted', the ones I saw/had, have 18.5" barrels..sometimes called 'The Hunter' with that glossy Monte Carlo stock, with the cheap butt pad. ...more rare & kool' bcuz of barrel length, & AK mags, but, they were more-so cheaply made over any other SKS at that time & now. I sold mine, bcuz it just felt 'cheap' comparatively.

Kind of a curious and confusing rifle. The barrel length is definitely shorter but non restricted at 18.5 inches, crown looks factory and nicely done so oddly I didn't even twig on that. Cutouts on the stock suggest a previous spike bayo and cleaning rod that are now absent which does not support an M. A M model would also suggest a Monte Carlo stock. Mag release looks a little like the MC-D5 but not really, the receiver is not MC-D5 marked(in fact it does not have any M or D marking on receiver) . It does have the appropriate factory screws in stock securing a mag well liner just above the mag release where the MC-D5 does not have these screws. The mag well liner looks legit and inlet like it came from the factory. I am starting wonder if this is indeed is a franken sks or at a least shortened barrel D?. If it a franken job its very nicely done, someone put a lot of skilled effort into it. Nonetheless as long as it feeds and shoots half decent I am very happy with the acquisition.

Update:Upon further research I think this rifle may have been one of the Canadian Ds redirected from the US market and distributed by SIR around the Clinton assault weapon ban, the stock, lack of marking and mag release match. There apparently were some reported short barreled(18 inch) non restricteds amongst the 16 and 20 inch versions. http://chinesesks.weebly.com/canadian.html
Well now, I definitely got a way better deal than I thought, lol.

NOTE - IF you CLICK on the ASTERISK on the advert you'll see the "Excluded" items. Maybe they'll Free Ship to 'some locations' but I'd check b4 ordering.

he said its 18.5" barrel. you were right, the pic was deceiving.

very interesting. no marking on the left side of receiver. how about left side towards the rear under the stock? is there an american import mark "made in china by XY"?

you could be right that you got a rare canadian version 18.5", a close cousin to the MC-5D. maybe they didnt bother to change the stock or mark the receiver like they did with the MC-5D.

in anycase, any SKS with chinese factory cut 18.5" barrel and accept AK mag are RARE, good find. im kicking myself for not looking at it close last month on GP, lol.

Don't kick yourself too much, I probably would have passed it over at the vendor's original price and the presented condition. It had the typical corrosive ammo surface rust which easily came off with a little gun oil and 00 steel wool. I am frequently surprised how little effort folks give to cleaning up a rifle for sale pictures.

There are no US import markings. I understand there are known examples of non import marked ones, which I can understand if it never touched US soil or was redirected before marking. The only other useful details I can think of, is that it has a matched stamped trigger group, all the serialled parts match(except the replacement Tapco upper handguard, gas tube and likely gas piston) and has an non refinished shellac stock with the correct D rear sling point attachment hardware( I believe most typical D stocks are non shellac finished). The following are the only markings on the rifle.
